Fish&chips
Compared Infinity War with various other 10M adm films. Two weeks in Infinity war is ahead of pretty much every film bar Roaring Currents (on par with along with the gods). Just makes you appreciate again how big RC actually was, that no film has come close to touching it during the four years after its run. A typical local film after this sort of opening would be looking at a 13M-14M finish but we've already seen Infinity War dipping into the 200K dailies when outside of the holiday/weekend frame. Tuesday's number will be telling but my guess would be something in the range of 100K-150K. Following that trajectory, 10M admissions should happen sometime during the coming weekend. Train to Busan had some pretty crappy late legs, and ended with 11.5M admissions. This suggests that Infinity War could finish in that ballpark too following a similar trajectory. The graph curvature also shows how strong Frozen, and to a lesser extent Interstellar, held in weeks 3 and 4. Frozen is still ranked 2nd in the [Biggest 3rd weekend rankings] after only Roaring Currents, and #1 on [Biggest 4th weekend rankings]. Nothing like Japan's run of course but considering the nature of SK's box office, those kind of late legs are very rare, and for an animated film no less.

IW fell something like 75% whereas AoU had fallen 81% but there is a difference of one day so that may skew things. Anyways if IW follows AoU drops till Sunday then it will be just above 10m admissions by Sunday.

Stewart
Infinity War Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th were 126k and 108k. Similar to Ultrons Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th at 134k and 106k. Essentially IW had holidays till Monday, Ultron had holidays till Tuesday. (Holiday is on 5th, but since it was on IW's Saturday, it got pushed to Monday). So IW is performing almost exactly in line with Ultron at this point. Although it'll have an extra ~100k tomorrow before going into weekend. -- For reference, Ultron's third weekend: Fri - 147k Sat - 345k Sun - 313k and Monday drops to 74.5k (Will be a key indicator for IW's legs)

Fish&chips
A look ahead to the three major summer box office releases for Summer 2018: [clockwise direction from the left: "A spy gone North", "along with the gods 2", "Drug King"] 1) A spy Gone north (공작) -Synopsis: Based on a true story, depicts the story of a spy in the mid 90s who while looking into NK's nuclear weapons program, found evidence of secret dealings between high level officials of North and South Korea. -Main Cast: Hwang Jung-min -Distribution: CJ E&M -Director: Yoon Jong-bin. Has had some hits and misses in the box office but he has worked with Hwang jung-min before in "A violent prosecutor" to good effect so there is cause for confidence. -Points of interest: Hwang Jung-min is one of the biggest box office draws in South Korea appealing to all demographic groups and genders. There is also renewed interest in NK at the present time with the summit happening between South and the North not too long ago, and with the summit between America and NK expected to happen soon too. This could lead to heightened interest in the film. 2) Along with the gods: The last 49 days (신과함께-인과연) -Synopsis: The film picks up where it left off, with the three angels of death assisting the trial of Su-hong, the brother of the protagonist of the first film. -Main Cast: Ha Jung-woo -Distribution: Lotte entertainment -Director:Kim Yong-hwa. Has worked with Ha jung-woo numerous times to produce box office success and critical acclaimed films and will hope to reproduce that success with this film. -Points of interest: A direct continuation of the first film. They were made to be two films from the beginning which is why there is only a 6 month gap between the release of the two films. The first one became the 2nd most attended movie in SK box office history so it will be interesting to see if this one can build on that success. Oh dal-su, who was caught up in a #metoo controversy was cut out from the film and it remains to be seen how that will effect the quality of the film or its box office performance as he played a big role in the first movie and had a substantial role in the second one as well. 3) Drug King (마약왕) -Synopsis: Set in the 1970s, depitcts the story of "drug king" Lee du-sam and those who followed him or chased after him. -Main Cast: Song Kang-ho -Distribution: Showbox -Director: Woo Min-ho. Directed R-rated movie "Inside-men" which was a critical and financial success. -Points of interest: Another crime movie, which I feel has been done to death in Korea already. But with Song Kang-ho as the main lead and a major distributor behind it, I have no doubt it will do well at the box office. Sam
When will Deadpool 2 start pre-sale? The first one did pretty well for an R-rated comedy, and I already see great interest and anticipation for the sequel through social media in SK, with Ryan Reynolds going there to promote. Could it see an increase from the the first Deadpool?

I can definitely see it increasing from the first if the film's quality lives up to the hype. IW dropped only 6.5% today compared to 20% that AoU fell on a similar day. AoU was at 106k by the time it went into its weekend whereas IW is at 100. If IW follows same drops as AoU then it will make about 760k over FSS. That will take IW to 10.1 million admissions. Infinity War is on more screens (1553) vs Age of Ultron (1307) and it also has lesser competition from new openers. So hopefully it will hold well Edited May 10, 2018 by ZeeSoh 4
