What's your prediction for the total gross? Around $90M?

For the sake of convenience, I'll base my predictions around AoU. If the past few days are any indication it seems to be a fairly reliable model.

So after the friday number AoU amassed a further 1,774,853 admissions. In terms of gross that would equate to around $16M (based on today's ER). Added together, that would be approx $93-94M.

That would be my optimistic range though and I always lean a little conservative so I'd stop at 90.

IW had a 144.76% jump on saturday. AoU had a 135% jump on its similar day.

IW has also now overtaken AoU in dailies albeit very slightly.

It will get some more just like yesterday so about 349k I think.

With Avengers: Infinity War certain to pass 10M admissions today I thought it would be fun to celebrate by introducing the films currently residing in the 10M club and how long each film respectively took to cross that milestone.

21. 66 Days
King and the clown (2005)
Lifetime admissions: 12,302,831 (Currently the 11th most attended film)
Naver ratings: 9.03/10.0

Taking a whopping 66 days to cross 10 million admissions, this film is the leggiest film among the 10M club. Starting with a measly 737,823 3-day OW and a little-known cast as well as well as the somewhat difficult subject matter of homosexuality, practically everyone had written off the film from the beginning as a box office bomb. However, word of mouth steadily grew week-on-week until it hit syndrome levels eventually vaulting the box office reject to become the #1 most attended film of all time. It remains one of the most impressive box office runs to date due to its sheer longevity.

20. 58 days
Silmido (2003)
Lifetime admissions: 11,081,000 (Currently the 17th most attended film)
Naver ratings: 8.54/10.0

The first film in Korea to pass 10M admissions. Much like Korea back in the 60s and 70s investing in a few select industries such as semiconductors and shipping to drive economic growth, this film was the first indicator to the Korean film society that box-office success on a large scale could happen with the concentration of resources and platform. This was another long-running type of run that would be virtually impossible in today’s social media landscape. The film is based on a true story about a tragedy that occurred on an Silmido island.

19. 50 days

Interstellar (2014)

Lifetime admissions: 10,275,484 (Currently the 20th most attended film)

Naver ratings: 9.09/10.0

The height (at least for now) of Nolan’s success in South Korea. Prior to its release, many people were skeptical of its chances due to its unfavorable November release date as well as the expectation that the public would find the complex science in the film hard to grasp. Contrary to those fears, the public showed great enthusiasm towards the film with the majority of reviews praising the visual effects as well as having a solid basis in science which satisfied the audience’s intellectual curiosity. Interstellar's sentimental core to the narrative, as shown by Cooper’s love for his daughter was also considered to be a factor in its popularity. This was reflected by it becoming the biggest November OW and showing some extremely good holds in subsequent weeks culminating in it passing the 10M milestone.

18. 46 days

Frozen (2014)

Lifetime admissions: 10,296,101 (Currently the 19th most attended film)

Naver ratings: 9.12/10.0

Perhaps the most unexpected entry into the 10M club. Most of the other genres show some areas of overlap, be it actors, genre or themes. Among the 10M admission films, Frozen is the only animated film, the only musical, and besides Avatar, was the only foreign release to make it to 10M admissions. Not only that, it was a WDAS product which at the time, was way way down in the pecking order compared to Dreamworks, and their biggest success to date being Tangled with a paltry 1M admissions. The Arendelle sisters managed to take Korea by storm however, becoming a full blown cultural phenomenon showing success in not only the film industry but also in industries such as music, with Let it go becoming the first foreign language song to top the music charts. More importantly though, the success of Frozen led to a dramatic change in how the public viewed animated films, shifting from viewing it as for children, to accepting it as an entertainment medium in its own right.

17. 39 days

Taegukgi: Brotherhood of war (2004)

Lifetime admissions: 11,746,135 (Currently the 13th most attended film)

Naver ratings: 9.16/10.0

After Silmido, Taegugki was the 2nd film to pass 10M admissions. It follows the tale of two brothers who ended up fighting on opposing sides in the Korean civil war of 1950. Despite the high level of animosity people in the South sometimes show towards the North (the feeling is mutual I gather), the success of this film perhaps showed that undercutting it all, the strongest emotion is grief and regret rather than hatred. The vast majority of people are hoping that the US-NK summit leads to a genuine thawing and restoration of relations between the South and the North.

'Avengers 3' tops 10 mln admissions in S. Korea

2018/05/13 13:56

SEOUL, May 13 (Yonhap) -- "Avengers: Infinity War" surpassed 10 million in attendance on Sunday, the 19th day since it hit South Korean theaters, its local distributor said.

The latest release from Marvel Studios became the fastest foreign film to break 10 million in South Korea, according to Walt Disney Company Korea.

It also became the 21st film ever to hit the milestone in the country and the fifth non-Korean film to do so, following "Avatar" (2009), "Interstellar" (2014), "Frozen" (2014) and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (2015).

"Infinity War" is the second Marvel film to garner more than 10 million views in Korea after "Age of Ultron" sold 10,490,000 tickets in 2015.

Great result.

Gonna be interesting to see how IW hold against Deadpool 2 next week.

Still seeing 11M admissions regardless though.
