TalismanRing Posted May 20, 2018 Share Posted May 20, 2018 It's inexplicable how such a huge movie in two of it's biggest markets could have such poor subtitles and not for the first time with this series. Disney should have better quality control over this and if it's a matter of money to make it better - then pay it. Better subtitles would probably pay for themselves. But yeah, it was a shame and the translator for IW denied any problems to the bitter end as did disneykorea which only exacerbated the situation. Even I noticed the awful subtitling (For some reason I find myself reading the Korean subtitles in films all the time. There is one that is hysterically bad in the post credits, but for slight spoiler reasons, I cannot say what it is. However AoU’s Sunday of 142 is about 24.5% bigger than IW’s 114 Sunday. AoU did not face a direct SH competition like IW does so IW’s lower numbers are understandable. Fish&chips Posted May 21, 2018 Share Posted May 21, 2018 (edited) Deadpool 2 passed 2M admissions today on the 6th day of release, which is faster than DP1 by 2 days but slower than Kingsman: Golden Circle by 1 day. The upswing for DP2 is that monday and tuesday numbers should be a good deal higher. Ryan Reynolds pledged to down a bottle of Soju on camera if DP2 passed DP1, which is something to look forward to as it seems to be a dead cert to happen. Sam Posted May 21, 2018 Share Posted May 21, 2018 (edited) Star Wars never have much of a presence in Asian countries, SK included, with the exception of Japan, which is understandable considering its aging population. Doesn’t help that the new Disney SW movies often time relying heavily on nostalgia that was never there for SK audience. And I like a few of the new characters, but I can see why they’re not appealing to the young generation who just got introduced to the franchise. I follow SK entertainments through music, movies, TV shows, etc... and I hardly ever see SW making a presence in pop cultures. Many other popular old Hollywood movies are well known and often referenced there. But not SW. TFA got the curiosity factor and had a respectable gross in SK, but the drop off shown in Rogue One and TLJ was staggering and telling.
