I read on another thread that Joker was doing exceptionally great in South Korea but here I read that it's doing worse than Venom. Well..

Venom did great in SK with a $30M final, but Joker will finish the weekend in the $28 range, and pass it by the end of this upcoming week. They're both wins.

About 40% from last week for joker versus 59% drop from Venom last year.

I hope Monday admission will drop at least 50% from last Monday because joker presale is really low, only 17k drop 66% from last week.

Last Tuesday was a holiday which meant Monday evenings held well. SK will give Joker at least 10M more from here, possibly 15.

Hopefully yeah, but those presales is pathetic right now. Hopefully in Tuesday it will increase.

Looking at last year, Venom’s next set of weekdays were 55000, 45000, 45000, 35000 admissions. It made 6M more from this point, Joker needs to just match its drops to get 10M more.

Looking at early CGV number 12.00 kst ( I know it's early) and compare it with last Monday and Thursday. Yeah this movie has great PS multiplier and huge walk-in.

It might reach 90k, 80, 80 and 65

Don't know why presale always seems low compared to daily admission.

From this should be enough to reach 35m but yeah that's it. For DC standard still a very good result.

Korean Law to Limit Film Releasing Monopolies

The Korean government is to make it illegal to show a single film on more than 50% of screens nationwide. The move is intended to prevent “screen monopolies by blockbuster films” and to “address unfair competition practices in the film industry.”

Theater operators will not be allowed to allocate more than 50% of screens nationwide to a single film between 1pm and 11pm, the period when the attendance rate is the highest. The ministry said that on 12 occasions between 2016 and 2018 a single film had filled more than half of Korea’s theaters. That was a jump from just three between 2013 and 2015.

Guilds have long claimed that the vertically-integrated majors favor their own titles, and Hollywood blockbusters, to the detriment of independent films.

In April, Disney’s “Avengers: Endgame” opened on 2,835 screens, or 90% of the 3,128 nationwide.

This is going to impact big hollywood movies. Opening day and opening weekend grosses in particular will see a drop. Movies may likely develop longer legs but overall this will lead to lower grosses for big movies as people may not prefer to wait too long to see a movie, opting instead to pirate. Multiple viewings may also get affected.

Theatre owners will not be happy with this.

If box office starts to suffer as a result, I'm sure they'll revisit it. At the end of the day, if, as a viewer, Endgame doesn't have a free seat at 6 PM, I'm unlikely to just buy a ticket for an indie film playing in the screen next to it. I'm more likely to wait until a day it's free or, as you said, resort to piracy.

Especially with streaming being what it is, I can't see how they expect this to actually work out. People will still opt for the big movies in cinema and cutting their options will potentially only result in lower overall revenue.

But, I suppose it will be an situation to follow.

Last Tuesday was a holiday. Still tracking 80% higher than Venom on dailies. Venom did a further 5M from here, Joker should add another 8-10M for around 40M. Can go higher if late legs are good.
