Y'all know the SK box office climate better than me. This is a good opening, right?

It’s alright. Wouldn’t be notable in normal marketplace, but certainly the biggest in a long time.

Vietnam reported numbers look like $1.1 million Approx. So worldwide weekend will be $20.5-21mn range.

Korea: $13.2mn

Taiwan: $4.8mn

Vietnam: $1.1mn

Singapore and Malaysia: $1.5mn Approx

Total: $20.6mn

Edit: Not sure if its true, but release date in Vietnam is said to be 24th July, so the reported numbers are Pre-sales may be. But Gitesh mentioned 5 Asian markets, so I assume it released there.

Well, Charlie was right about Monday. With the recent 14:20 reading I’d say it’s heading to about 150. With no serious openers this week I think the M-Th gross can be at least 3.5x that for ~550, cume of 2.35. 50% weekly drops from there on would be 4.1 total, 60% weekly drops would be ~3.55 and 40% would be about 4.9M.

I’d personally go for ~4 at this point but it has been running mildly above my expectations the past few days.

I think 160,000 is possible today, roughly 94% of The Lion King and 32% of Train To Busan. If it add 94% of The Lion King from here on, it will reach 4.125 million, while 32% of Train To Busan will see it at 3.8 million. That's no change from what we were seeing in weekend, but I think it can do better than TTB 2nd week drop, as that faced a big film.

I think

Week 0: 578k

Week 1: 1785k

Week 2: 1200k

Week 3 onward: 700k

Total: 4260k plus.

A decent PS film popping up too, 9 days out, around 13k sales. Steel Rain 2.

First film had a decent 4.45mn admits in 2017.

Since Peninsula was a little underwhelming, it looks like Deliver Us From Evil and Steel Rain 2 could capitalize on audiences that are hungry for good content. Which one do you think has more potential?

Update:

Mon came in 140, with Mon-Wed 350. CGV PS of 10k for Thu means it will likely run to 85ish, so call it a 2.25 cume with a 1.7 week.  55.5% drops from there gives 3.55 total, just shy of doubling 5-day.

@imbruglia how is South Korea Home Video and TV market for films because I don't think theatrically it will do more than $12-13mn returns with $20mn budget after release cost.

train to busan made about 5.5M with vod market.

according to peninsula's PR, 2.5M admission was the break-even considering pre-sale to other countries and possible future vod income.

I wonder if there's any limit to capacity in play in Korea ( @imbruglia may tell us) .
