South Korea Box Office

Recommended Posts

Sorry for my absence, I've been away on vacation so I couldn't update the box office. Thanks to those who kept the thread going! Unfortunately I spent the last 1-2 hrs writing up missing materials but I've lost it all due to a computer shutdown :( it's too much work to do again tonight but I'll get around to it tomorrow.

Good drops so far, pretty solid hold from it's OD. But with veteran and Detective Conan  set to provide additional competition, holds could turn brutal.

WOW! MI5 is already a HUGE hit in SK! :o

There's a fairly good chance it will record a series high. The Tom Cruise brand continues to grow in Korea

It will be a close race for IO to get the 5M I think and btw if pixar/disney hadn't dumped inside out on such a bad release date it could have gotten 6.5M+ easy :(

Warner Bros. is to finance and distribute its first ever Korean-language movie, “Secret Agent.”

The 1930s period drama is to be directed by top Korean director Kim Jee-woon and star acting icon Song Kang-ho, who previously shared the lead in Kim’s kinetic kimchi Western “The Good, The Bad, The Weird.” Song is also familiar to U.S. audiences from “Snowpiercer.”

Warner becomes the second Hollywood studio to greenlight a Korean-language movie, following Fox Korea’s “Intimate Enemies” and “Slow Video” and its involvement in “The Yellow Sea.”

While it's true that summer box office is not an ideal release date for WoM animated films to gather full steam, I don't think it was a wrong decision from DIsney either. Previously, Pixar films had a very lousy track record and there was nothing to indicate that Inside Out would have been any different in which case, getting the most out of summer weekdays when children are resting from school would have been the ideal strategy.

Yeah, but this competition is just huge, it's just insane If it was released quitely like Interstellar it could have done much more and the legs would have been insane. But you are right, their was no indication what so ever that it would break out. And btw I am hopping for some crazy late leggs for assasinaton, hope it can clear the way to 12-13M admission. Love local hits :D

I think the titel should be about assasination it's doing great atm and will easly do 10M+ admission, not that i have complaints :D Just sharing my opinion ^^

It's weekly drops are amazing and easily the best among the holdovers. I wouldn't be surprised if it surpassed MI5 again soon.

Very big fan of Kim Jee-woon's work in The good, the bad and the ugly and apparently Song Kang-ho will take the lead role which is great :)

Very interested in the direction this film will take. Thanks for sharing!

I'd say the two films has similar WoM but Rogue nation had the bigger opening. Going forward, competition seems to be heavier for rogue nation though and it is at a disadvantage in terms of the exchange rate so I wouldn't lock $50 million just yet, but I think there's a good chance!
