That’s one of the highest I’ve seen on here. Are musicals big in S. Korea or was Aladdin really popular here? The way the WOM is OS and DOM, it really seems it could’ve done $1b if it had better marketing and was a well made film with less flaws. Korea is easily the most musical-friendly country in Asia. In terms of admissions for Hollywood movies, Frozen and Bohemian Rhapsody are #6 and #7 all-time, with both getting around 10M admits (only behind Avatar, 3 Avengers movies and Interstellar). Les Miserables had close to 6M, that’s more than many solo MCUs and both Jurassic World movies. Beauty and The Beast (2017) managed 5M+, Mamma Mia also did very well. The weirdest, most random case that showed Korea’s affinity for musicals gotta be Begin Again though. That movie grossed like 47M total OS, with 25M coming from S. Korea lol (3.3M admissions, which was just bonkers for an indie movie). With the outstanding WOM Aladdin seems to be getting, and summer weekdays approaching, I could see some sexy legs ahead for the movie. 2
Stewart
Aladdin's Sunday: 358k +8.5% Only movie in top 6 to increase (rest averaged the typical 10-15% drop). WOM still building and spreading, at this rate potential for next weekend to hold flat. Been a long time since I saw a Sunday increase on a normal Sunday! 5 1

Frozen is #3 of all time with 20m admission. Bohemian Rhapsody & BatB were huge success with more than 12B yen. Les Miserables, La La Land, Greatest Showman, all were big as well. Even Phantom of the Opera was successful in Japan. So both countries are very musical-friendly.

imbruglia
presale Parasite 228k Aladdin 100k Godzilla 30k Aladdin killing it and paprasite coming.. and lack of interest from people, godzilla doesn't look good. looking at thursday schedule godzilla will only get 1 screen per theater, not even biggest screen. we need to see its wed culture day performance but imo this probably struggle to pass 2014 number. godzilla had press screening today, again the drama/story was called weak/bad by some reviewer. some prefer 2014 one outsite action scenes. parasite is doing press screening right now too. godzilla won't have buzz at all. bad timing. Spiderman FHH got official release date July.2 "Tuesday". to match international release date. btw, x men cast were in korea for promotion yesterday. they did this. non Asians.. please don't do this in Asia. this is buddhist greeting.. you only do it to monk or in buddhist temple or in buddhist country. korea and many asia countries are not. this is how you do it in korea.
