Brought back in the OD comps for Oppenheimer since I realised Avatar 2 had extremely backloaded presales and I think Oppy might play similar so even though it's opening on a holiday this might get cancelled out by the IMAX effect giving it a lower PSM in line with the other comps. Not an exact science but it's there for reference. Avatar 2's ATP eventually settled at just under $10. Call it $10 flat for the first week since PLFs will represent a bigger share of the gross and that will give you an idea of what Oppy might make here.

The final column is the sum of all the "admission start" numbers from the following week's Mondays through to Thursdays. Essentially it's all the non-walkup numbers from the weekdays and you can see it is pretty well-correlated with the post-Sunday presale numbers at a ratio of about 8-9 to 1. This would point to somewhere around 130k admissions in presales in the next Mon-Thu.

 

So maybe a greater proportion of schools are off next week as opposed to the week that just passed? If so, another W2W boost from school holidays would definitely help soften the blow that the local movies will deal to it from next Wednesday on. We may even see W2W increases on Monday and Tuesday depending on walkups.

It's hard to make a judgement this week because we no longer have admission start data (boo KoBiz), using the CGV start estimate it seems Elemental's presales are way more frontloaded this week, with only 6k presales booked after Sunday versus 15.6k last week, this would point to significant drops next week but the CGV start ratio could be way off and that number may be closer to 10k. I really miss the precision of having admission starts to play with! Regardless, I think Monday will drop >30% from last week back down to Thursdays baseline of 67k give or take based on the overall presale drop of 33%.

Really solid jumps all around, +65% for Elemental would point to just a 20% Sat -> Sat drop which is excellent deep in the summer. Smugglers would also be looking at -17%. Maybe the CGV ratio being higher will bring these numbers down to earth later but for now, excellent matinee business for a summer Saturday.

Elemental bros it's been an honour, after 53 days it has finally made a new daily low, you have to go all the way back to its very first Thursday when it saw 41,921 admissions to find the last time Elemental had its lowest day. It seems we're in the final stages of the run now, here's hoping it still has juice for 7m admissions!

Elemental bros it's been an honour, after 53 days it has finally made a new daily low, you have to go all the way back to its very first Thursday when it saw 41,921 admissions to find the last time Elemental had its lowest day. It seems we're in the final stages of the run now, here's hoping it still has juice for 7m admissions!
