It doesn't seem or feel composed to the actual film and its beats. I also found it toneally dull. Not much variety in terms of energy. It was very strange. Movie probably suffered some bad case of post production hell. It happens when a movie tests badly. The score appropriately invites you back in when a sense of complete boredom creeps in (Perri Nemiroff from Colliders puts it succinctly in her review). It varies from electronic sounds and synths to traditional and more classic. Ranges from frenetic to somber and solemn. The Leap of Faith and Underground match respectively their scenes, along with The Apple, The Creed, and so many others. newbie BO buff
Just came back from seeing it. It's not a perfect movie, but I really don't understand all the hate and that low RT rating. There were FAR worse stuff this year.

Its fine, but it just sits there and slowly rises. THIS IS ACTION SET PEICE music! This is a movie soundtrack, I can't tell just listening when the beats of the movie are.... Thats an issue. There is difference between when they are fist fighting or running, on the ground or in the air, its all the same "song" it doesn't evolve and change. Its not spontaneous in any Compare that to this.... Very different music but still, its similar in action beats. They start the ground... the bad guy thinks he got away... oh no he's still behind me.... climbing to the crane... fighting 500 feet up.... back to the ground..... Now in the embassy. You can feel and hear the change. Music is supposed to tell the audience what to FEEL. If I need to go from Suspense to getting away to getting caught. From Danger to Success, I need to be told that through music. A movie should bring in special Motifs and cues for just one moment or action. Example 4:18 the bad guy jumps from level 3 to level 2 in the elevator. Then 8 seconds later when Bond slides from the 3rd to the 2nd floor that Cue plays again. Its the first two times we have heard this. But its there to represent a SPECIFIC accomplishment. therana
Movies based on video games are rarely very successful for some reason. I wonder if there will ever be a truly successful VG movie. I think a movie based on Skyrim could be, especially internationally.

TimmyRiggins
I seriously have no idea what to say to any of that, the score is bombastic, maybe it's not subtle but it feels big to me, very catchy, legit good, I don't care if it doesn't qualify as "movie" score for some snobs out there, what I care about is "is it memorable?", "does it fit the film?". About the film, I probably didn't question the logic of certain things, I've played AC 1, 2, Brotherhood and stopped there because it was just the same thing after and after in different time periods, and the movie feels to me like it reproduces faithfully that universe. Is it dumb? Not any dumber than your average blockbuster in my opinion, and I am serious, the second regression alone is worth it, if you also think the action sucks in the film when it is the strongest thing in it, then I don't know what to tell you. Was I fully entertained for an hour and 45 minutes? Yes, will I remember the film in a couple of days or weeks? maybe not. Is the script garbage fire? I feel it works, it's very simple (have no idea what some of you or the critics are confused about), the performances are solid too, it's very well shot. At this rate, there will probably never be a well reviewed video game adaptation, because there will always be an inherent perception & preconceived notion going in. (regardless of the actual "quality" of the film) Edited December 22, 2016 by TimmyRiggins

shayhiri
Yeah?? Well - you're right. VG movies will always be a film ghetto, destined to failure, loss and derision. And you know what -- you people deserve it. You people DOUBLE deserve it!! Why? Because: 1. Computer games are for lowlifes. This is the lowest form of entertainment - lower even than TV. And it is not even an art form. You want a good story for your movie? Adapt a good book - not a fucking computer game!! 2. You people had the unbelievable arrogance to turn down Prince of Persia!! A movie sent by the gods of cinema ( Jerry B ) that was miles better than any movie in this genre can ever hope. And you turned it down?? Then Bruckheimer and the Shay said: Fuck you!! We'll leave you to rot in your misery. There will NEVER be another good VG movie!! So the Shay is gonna keep making his threads whenever a stupid VG movies pops out - and just like Prince of Persia destroyed Angry Birds, Warcraft and Assassins Creed this year - it is gonna keep squashing them like roaches, one by one, till the end of time. The seer has spoken.

There's no purpose in such constant changes when subtle cues do enough of the trick (Really don't see how it not changes when it transitions from electronic to traditional) And you really don't need to if the music can encapsulate what is occurring. I get the feeling of kindred spirits fleeing the pursuit of the Templar Order across Spanish rooftops. When that highest note is reached, Aguilar is perched on that viewpoint ready to give himself to both a courageous act and to the philosophy of the creed, which is one of free will and spirit. The score does a magnificent job of conveying that. Its just video game music? Wow, that assessment does not help the perception of this genre of film. I could easily label the Casino Royal score apropos for Spy thriller games like Hitman, if I was presented the music without any previous knowledge Edited December 22, 2016 by RedX

DAJK
Seeing this tonight with two friends. I've never played the game before and don't even know what it's about. One of my friends works with me and loves movies like me, but doesn't play video games in general (like me) and my other friend is that "popular kid who is secretly a huge Assassin's Creed fan"

I respect a few critics who happen to be on RT, even when they dislike something I like or like something I dislike they specify why and don't go all hysterical into an 'only horrible and spectacular exist' mode. But the mass on RT seem like a high school clique where to be cool they have to like or hate in a mob. At least that is the conclusion I have come to this year. 17 hours ago, RedX said: @antovolk I haven't gotten the script yet but it's supposed to arrive soon, at the latest by the end of this month How was it?
