Man of Steel thread OS

So we're probably looking at 680 or so worldwide ... good start for the franchise.

Of course, I don't see the sequel suddenly doing 1 billion ... probably more like 750-800.  Seems Superman just isn't going to blow up in some of these overseas areas.

It's always summer here :PSeriously, school holidays just started and I think that MOS will benefit immensely from it

You lucky bastard :PSo, what do you see for total, 20M looks possible from what you said, but how about 25M?

So 20M possible.

TDKR, TASM and TF3 all opened around the same date and had 4.3-4.6 multiplier.

20m is a good guess, 25m is out of reach.

I guess because of the budget being 225 mil some people are down a little on these totals but this is a fantastic number for this reboot especially coming off SR being basically a disaster 7 years ago.  MOS has out grossed Iron Man 1 and 2 to put this in it's proper perspective.  MOS also kicked the crap out of Thor and Captain America.  WB has to feel this performed at about the highest of their expectation for Superman.  They are right where they wanted to be last time heading into a sequel.

SR was a disaster in many people's eyes quality wise, but it's nowhere near a BO disaster. And LOL, definitely, let's take pride in Superman, one of the most well-known superheroes, beating Cap and Thor, who were virtually unknown characters to GA worldwide

Both IM1 and IM2 doesn't have inflation as well as 3D to boost the gross. Take out just 3D and not counting inflation, MOS will probably be around IM2 number, and not significantly bigger than IM1 either. And let's not forget, Iron Man was a complete no name at the time of its release too, to put this in proper perspective  :)

But sure, let's compare them to MCU movies, forget the Spiderman movies, or Batman movies, that's convenient.

I'm happy for MOS success, but this post, cannot resist

Thor and CA were relatively new to the game and had a much lower investment cost. So by comparison, they did absolutely great and possibly better on a return on invetsment point of view as well as in terms of reception overseas which was a more risky project for relatively unknown properties

Money is money. If a movie made more because of 3D or inflation. Fuck it. MoS made more than IM1 and IM2. Get over it,

Agree on this. Strange how a movie which will make almost 700M WW is being put down here. If Pac Rim gets to even 400-500, everyone here will proclaim it a huge hit.

In the end, what any of us here think will not matter, the studio will see the money it made, the mistakes it made - how it can fix them, and get the next movie (and hopefully the extended DC universe) going.
