Corpse
Japan Resident Evil 4 Opening Weekend: ¥698 million ($8.2 million), Fri-Sun: ¥899 million ($10.6 million) Resident Evil 5 Opening Weekend: ¥640 million ($8.1 million), Fri-Sun: ¥810 million ($10.3 million)* *estimate Resident Evil 4 grossed ¥4.7 billion ($56.8 million), so it's looks likely Resident Evil 5 will clear ¥4 billion ($50 million) and probably outgross it's NA total this year. Corpse
Yeah, you have to go by how much a film grossed in yen and admissions. Exchange rate messes things up for USD comparisons (especially on BOM since they don't update grosses for most films). However, every film has increased from the last in yen and admissions as well.RE1 - 2.3 billionRE2 - 2.7 billionRE3 - 2.85 billionRE4 - 4.70 billion (3D really boosted this one)RE5 will likely make over 4 billion, but beating RE4 will be really hard. John Marston
Resident Evil Retributions existence is another example of h ow much the overseas market matters these days for Hollywood films. Resident Evil 4 did mediocre numbers domestically but overseas was huge. So 5 was still made and even made more "Global" (At least according to the taglines)

The Toymaker
Will it beat TE2 WW?I will say no. The $35m+ deficit domestically will hinder this so much. But I am interested to hear your views..
A Marvel Fanboy
I think it only has a very small chance (and a China release must happen in this case) to beat TE2 WW.
