KATCH-2D2
Even if it does over $400m WW, wouldn't it still too risky to make a sequel with that 'just break even' number? The sequel won't cost less. It'd need to look more spectacular.

The Dark Rock
They can definitely cut the cost for sequel...G.I Joe did that and got bigger stars as well in the process...reduce the cost and get one or two box office draws.
John Marston
They can definitely cut the cost for sequel...G.I Joe did that and got bigger stars as well in the process...reduce the cost and get one or two box office draws. but the studio can easily get a "Why bother" type feel since they can just focus on trying to make something else. Also, GI Joe introduced 3D to the series while PR already had it. Also GI reduced costs by cutting down on the big CGI sequences, which for a film like PR is pretty much a necessity Edited August 9, 2013 by Robert Muldoon
The Dark Rock
Yes I do agree on the fact that they can focus on trying something else....but then Legendary might think to try to turn this into franchise as well...PR2 can do well even while reducing bit of cgi and giving proper attention to script/characters (which is major complain to the movie). Anyways I doubt that sequel will happen though but you never know the studios.
A Marvel Fanboy
The best way to know if a movie makes money or not is to see if the studio greenlights a sequel.
fmpro
BB did' ent make money in theaters. But still got a sequel..Its a matter of potential. But agree with fd
A Marvel Fanboy
Most big movies dont make money from theaters. But most movies do make money when all is said and done.
Moviedweeb
If a movie barely breaks even or is just slightly in the red but has the potential to launch a franchise, the a studio will likely green light a sequel. As fmpro said, it's all about potential and a pacific rim sequel has the potential to do some serious business in Asia (maybe $150m from China alone). fmpro
And 150 mill should be very possible..Think of it this way..If PR2 made 150 mill in China and WB gets 40% with zero marking costs, its like making a 110 mill $ movie..That should be no problem making back in the rest of the world... And making money also..

POLYLOVE
Today PR looks only dropped 45% from last Sat. It's a better hold than MOS and IM3.
druv10
Today PR looks only dropped 45% from last Sat. It's a better hold than MOS and IM3. That would be awesome hold. Massive jump just like last week on Saturday so around 37-38M. 100M might happen afterall.
Bishop54
Apparently in São Paulo Brazil, there are two showings of PR that is the Japanese dubbed version.
