WWZ success is great for the zombie genre. Hopefully Hollywood can produce more quality zombie films. All they need to do is manage production costs and the cash will follow.

I think the success of this movie is beyond the fact that it is a  zombie movie, or any other specific genre.

Those swarming scenes shot in a realistic world gives the audience something edgy, contemporary and genuinely frightening. One look at the Jerusalem scene from the trailer is enough to drive curious folks out of the comfort of their PG rated TV shows. My only criticism is the lack of any real story. The movie is just one long chase. And other than the intense siege in the Middle East, the movie is lacking in other stand-out scenes. I am excited by what the makers would come up with in the sequel.

600 mill WW will happen if its released in China no doubt. 550 mill should minimum happen without. No reason why a sequel should'nt happen in the near future

WWZ release Wednesday in France. 7,8 million isn't bad. But 450K admissions wednesday was with previews and wednesday was "la fête du cinéma" so great day, but the others days are bad for the box office, because the sun is coming and it was long overdue. The people enjoy and do not really go to the movies.

There is a strong possibility this one will break out in Japan, $40M is not out of reach, judging from past disaster movies.

Spain will give a strong number too.

Really??

When will it open there??

Any ideas on whether this will turn a profit in its theatre run?

budget is $190m, and add large global marketing campaign.

Its revenues look like topping out at 520m.

looks like break even. i wouldn't call this a 'hit'

It is now in the position to launch a very lucrative franchise which is a huge win for any studio.
