Wolverine 2 OS thread

It's not a bad sign either...this spin off has a good chance of becoming the highest-grossing entry of the franchise, even though it's been paying the sins of the earlier entries (Last Stand and Origins) in some of the main markets.

First Class regained the prestige among fans and critics, The Wolverine brought back the money. Days of Future Past can only go up from there.

Actually, the GA is not really anticipated for DoFP.

They don't have much else on their plate for next year. Rio 2 and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes should get Chinese releases, Fox will no doubt push hard for DoFP , and then the fourth release (assuming they get the same number of quota slots next year) will be a tossup. Could be Frankenstein, The Secret Service, or maybe a holdover from late 2013 (The Monuments Men? Walking with Dinosaurs?). No Chinese release for First Class might hurt DoFP's chances, but every other X-film has been released and franchises have skipped entries here before.

Another thing to worry about DOFP's condition in China is that it is not easy to find a suitable release date for it. May will have two blockbusters: TASM and Godzilla, just like IM3 and STID in 2013. Not sure about a third one. Early word is that CFC hopes to release TF4 along with North America, aka last week of June, likely right on 27th. But they maybe also delay TF4 to middle July if they worry about the World Cup. Either, it is unlikely to have another blockbuster with TF4 within 4 weeks.  I think DOFP would go late Aug at the earliest if it ever gets a release. While in that case, CFC will also have to find places for Edge of Tomorrow,  Malificent,  FF7, JA, GOTG, TE3 and others ... it is possible that DOFP would be just skipped. And if they are going to skip DOFP, it has little to do with how hard Fox will be pushing it. Paramount did everything they could to make WWZ happen and we all knew what happened.

This year, Paramount had three quota (JR, GIJ2 and STID) and they could never find a 4th one.

per screen daily

The Wolverine grossed $5.2m from 4,362 from 70 markets for $227.2m and has become the highest grossing of the X-Men franchise surpassing the previous leader X-Men: The Last Stand on $225m. There are still three markets to release including Japan on Sept 13.
