wileECoyote
Does anyone think that the Olympics will have any impact on the Box Office and by how much? Again, this is the kind of programming that could affect the weekend numbers, both foreign and domestic.

mattmav45
And apparently continuing to have an effect with the aftermath. You have the coverage of the shooter's trial, which they will obsess over. Yesterday they obsessed over his first court hearing, which was extremely boring and didn't reveal anything other than his appearance. Then you have a copycat shooter getting arrested, and there probably will be more to come. Then you have lawsuits against Warner Brothers by the victims. It all adds up to a ton of negative propaganda against the film itself, which is unfortunate.Yeah, no movie has ever had to deal with this kind of baggage.I'm trying to understand why people feel the film or WB had ANYTHING to do with the shooting. Jesus Christ, this country is so fucked up. Everyone always has to point the finger and someone else always has to be responsible. Yes, it was terrible, but there is only one person to blame for what happened. The movie studio having to deal with lawsuits is really sad, and I think embarrassing for the state of things in the country.
pmoore
A Maine man has been accused of making a "copycat" threat after watching the new Batman movie, underscoring moviegoers' anxieties and heightened security in the wake of Friday's deadly mass shooting at a Colorado theater showing the film. Timothy Courtois of Biddeford, Maine, was arrested when he told authorities that he was on his way to shoot a former employer a day after watching "The Dark Knight Rises," Maine state police said Monday. Courtois had been stopped for speeding, and a police search of his car found an AK-47 assault weapon, four handguns, ammunition and news clippings about the mass shooting in Aurora, Colorado, authorities said. Former graduate student James Holmes, 24, is accused of opening fire in a theater in the Denver suburb, killing 12 people and injuring 58 others. Courtois was stopped on the Maine Turnpike, where he was reportedly driving 112 mph. He said he had attended the Batman movie on Saturday, although police have not confirmed whether he actually saw the film. "I guess we're taking everything at face value," state police Lt. Kevin Donovan said. "It's very scary." Police searched Courtois' home later Sunday and found a machine gun, several other guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition. "We don't know what his true intentions were," said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety. "Based on the arsenal that was confiscated, we brought in our counterparts from the FBI and ATF to assist with the investigation." Courtois was charged with speeding and possession of a concealed weapon. http://www.baynews9.com/content/news/baynews9/news/article.html/content/news/articles/cfn/2012/7/24/dark_knight_copycat_.html

pmoore
None of these are copycats, the bottom 2 happen in all movies and the top one , wtf, he saw the movie the night before and the next day was going to kill his boss the next day. Screwed up media But don't try telling me that a story like this - plus the other two stories of men making threats - aren't keeping people away from movies (especially this movie). Deathlife
Wow, Spidey's number is bad.Seriously, what's Sony going to do next with Spider-man?TASM had good word of mouth but not great.Gross is decent but considering that it's in 3-D attendance isn't great.Fans and fanboys that rejected this movie are less likely to sequel to it, so what next now? With all due respect to those that loved TASM,re-booting the franchise was a knee jerk and stupid reaction to a very controllable situation.
