A program that you entered a description (somewhat similar to what goes on describing a movie) of a product idea and gave you sales projection by world market back ?

Can you go in more details (it is the out of the box part that I find hard to believe for something like movies).

Hey, what we are talking about here is tracking how a product is doing, where it sales are strong and where they are weak, and, frankly, in this regard movies are no different then any other product.

As for your first question, yes,if you entered the paramters you want into  good business management software? You think tracking products and making sales projections with a computer is anything new?

What is throwint you off it is the idea that movies are somehow speciasl in this regard. They are not.

when you talk about this, it is not film school stuff, it's business school stuff.

That not what this is about at all or I didn't understand the original post at all, we are talking a report giving to exec evaluating expected product sales before the product is made, in the do we greenlight a movie phase. In the Sony leak circa 2012-2014, what a studio was often doing was asking their local distribution team of each market, what do you think of that project (with the cast, director-writer, movie plot summary) and they were getting cast suggestion back and how much it was expected to make in that market, this to be replaced/helped via some intelligence (that could go as far as pitching the idea online creating social media account and evaluating the reaction, who knows....).

What it probably look like:

You enter the description of the movie (summary of the plot or if it is less impressive manually give the best comparable, but because there is talk of AI I imagine the program find the best comparable)

Cast

Crew

expected MPAA rating

Put the genre in option if the program do not get it from the description (animation or live action)

The program give you an expectation of how much it should do by market.

Not sure what you mean by tracking when talking a movie to be released in 18 to 36 months.

I am fully aware that Toyota can make sales projection in a program by changing the asked price, but that not really what we are talking about here. Here if it get any good we are just a couple step away of the AI coming up with movie concept + cast on their own and proposing them to the studio.

Quote

Warner Bros.: It exceeded its annual operating income record set in 2018. One key benefit for the bottom line was the fact that Warners cut operating expenses by 5.6 percent to $11.9 billion from $12.6 billion, with the company in several quarters citing a mix of lower film and television production costs and decreased marketing expenses. Warners' revenue took a hit last year, though, as it became the first studio to detail the financial impact from the upcoming launch of its streaming service, HBO Max. With WarnerMedia holding back content from third parties for May's HBO Max, the company in the fourth quarter recorded $1.2 billion in foregone licensing revenue. The studio's TV production arm, whose profits the company doesn’t break out, again was a source of strength, benefitting from such hits as The Big Bang Theory, which ended its run in May, and The CW's Riverdale. The studio's TV product revenue was $6.4 billion for the year, exceeding its $6 billion theatrical haul, with video games and other revenue sources contributing the remaining $2.0 billion.

What’s Behind WarnerMedia’s Marketing Executive Exodus

(...)

Prior to coronavirus, Warner Bros. had released one commercial dud after another, producing a slate of bombs, flops, and disappointments that included “The Goldfinch,” “Just Mercy,” “Motherless Brooklyn,” “Doctor Sleep,” “Birds of Prey,” “The Kitchen” and “Richard Jewell.” The billion-dollar grossing “Joker” and New Line’s “It Chapter 2” were the only bright spots. As it has many times before at other studios experiencing problems, marketing got the blame.

Warner Bros. studio chief Toby Emmerich, who clashed with Rich in the past, appears to have been spared. He has a warm relationship with Sarnoff and was recently promoted by being handed control of making feature films for HBOMax. Sarnoff is also, according to one insider, feeling bullish about Warner Bros.’ upcoming slate, which includes “Wonder Woman 1984,” “In the Heights” and “The Batman.”

(...)

Warner Bros. is considering hiring former Universal Pictures marketing head Josh Goldstine, but there is concern his selection would provoke internal blowback. Goldstine was ousted from Universal in 2018 over unspecified allegations of “inappropriate conduct.” He later received a massive legal settlement, reportedly in the $20 million range, after an arbitrator ruled that Universal had erred in the way it handled his firing. Goldstine, who also had a top marketing post at Sony, has quietly been doing some consulting work for Warner Bros. on titles including Denis Villenueve’s “Dune.”

They could not have handled the release date war more poorly.

Agreed. I think the decision not to delay WW84 is going to cost them millions of dollars since hey are throwing away US Domestic Threatrical Revenues.

What the fuckity fuck of fucking fucks. What is going on. Holy fuck! Well, RIP BO. RIP movie theaters. I did not see this coming.

I feel like the AT&T CEO either has no clue what they are doing or wants to turn HBO/Warner Bros into the next Netflix and/or both that the CEO is incompetent and wants HBO MAX to be the next D+/Netflix. This is why a cellular company buying a movie studio is a bad idea.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jon M. Chu must be pissed as hell right now after how enthusiastically they've been talking about In the Heights this year and saying they wanted people to experience it in theaters. WB is gonna have a ton of problems booking talent if big names vow to never work with the studio again.
