Memorial Day weekend, 4th of July weekend, and Thanksgiving weekend (the other prime holiday spots to open a movie) are disappointed in you right now for the oversight.

But I think the point is that Wonder Woman's box office numbers surpassed their expectations (again, given the circumstances) and goes to show that the theatrical experience can't be killed as easily as many think it can. Thus, WB will end up sticking with this plan for their early 2021 titles (Little Things, Judas, Tom & Jerry, Sopranos prequel, Mortal Kombat, maybe Godzilla vs. Kong if they can work out a deal with Legendary) but everything else beyond that will be regular theatrical releases.

Well, Memorial Day has become the "disappointment" weekend with swimming pool openings/beach openings...and July 4th has fireworks...but I may give you Thanksgiving, although that has loads of shopping...

Christmas and Easter are missing those "other family-of-any-age social activities" except religious services...and thus, why the movies becomes the "default" family outing on those 2 holidays that will be hard to kill...

But, I don't think theaters can live on 2 weeks of boffo business followed by 2 months of nothing every year:)...

It won't be just two weeks because we won't be getting just two movies a year that people will actually want to see. ;)

On separate note. Can WB make anymore content (tv series / films) from LoTR & GoT. A film from GoT universe could be huge.

Something like perhaps Arya's journey to West of Westeros.

WB has really good IPs.

They need to create a hybrid of the Doom of Valyria and Aegon’s Conquest at some point.

@excel1 recommended plan:

Some of those sound quite expensive, buying Bond (depending what you mean by that), Nolan making a sequel and quite out of control as well.

I could imagine that when Amazon rented the right for the TV show that it came with some exclusivity windows language.

At that price tags it probably came with condition that no one else can make LoTR containt before and during their run. And probably with some type of language that they cannot be sued to use extension that came from New Line creation and not from the original material.

Even with all the (mostly deserved) backlash the final season received, a Game of Thrones movie in about 10 years would probably be huge. Especially if they brought Harrington back and found a way to bring Clarke back. Depends on if this new series or any other spin-offs can restore goodwill to the brand.

Nah, I've lost interest and so did most people. Maybe if Martin doesn't die and actually releases an ending, then people would watch it.

D&D OTOH, I mean, even blacklisting from Hollywood and the entertainment industry worldwide is not far enough away from those arrogant clowns. Launch them into space and be done with them.

Blacklisting? Seems a bit far fetched.

6. Wonder Woman

7. Nolan

8. Abrams

Some potential but they will no doubt need more to compete with Disney. Live-action IRON GIANT, big-budget PEARL HARBOR from A-List Director, a CASABLANCA remake, a modern remake of THE EXORCIST all have potential to big, one-off hits that could further a talented Director or actors star power.

Iron Giant made 12 dollars sorry 31.3 million dollars and while its beloved by those who have seen it there are still plenty of parents that have no clue what it is.

We had a big budget Pearl Harbor film by an A List actor and it was a modest hit.  This was at the height of WW2 nostalgia at that during a time with Saving Private Ryan, The Greatest Generation.

Casablanca remake now?  Come on man.

Please Please don't ruin the greatest movie ever in my opinion.  Which actor has Bogart's charm and which actress has Bergman's beauty and elegance? NONE. Period.

The internet loves this movie and its reputation has grown well beyond initial box office success. Get it in the hands of a competent Director and this will be a sizable hit.

It may not do $1.5b world but it could be a very solid $600-700m gross AND has sequel potential.

That movie inflates to roughly $1 billion worldwide so it was hardly a 'modest hit' and more importantly, it was in the top 5 highest opening films ever when it opened. It's hype was huge and none of the actors were real "draws" though Batfleck was famous and Hartnett briefly became super famous AFTER the movie. It was huge opener because it's based on the only 'modern' military attack on the US. It's appeal to military fans is enormous. This is a VERY "cinema friendly" historical event - and the marketing blueprint from 2001 would be identical for a 2022-2023 release. Dunkirk had no stars and is a much less famous, much less cinema-friendly event and did over $520m global. Same with 1917 which did $400m.

A respected Director would be an absolute requirement. Emmerich's MIDWAY looked like a video game. A Bradley Cooper directing & starring/ JJ Abrams directing / Michael B. Jordan starring big-budget take on PEARL HARBOR would be considerably bigger hit than Dunkirk.

Release it whatever weekend comes after December 7th and it'll be a $50-60m+ opener and have Christmas legs that carry it a long way. If it were awards caliber, that's probably a $350-400m+ total with $80m-1 billion billion global. Again, monster gross for a one-off, not Franchisee IP.

These guys really don't have much going on. Their slate is pathetic.

A remake of Casablanca would make about as much money as a sequel to The Shining did (in other words: none whatsoever). Nobody wants a remake or sequel to an "untouchable" cinema classic. The only way the industry will ever revive those titles is through those "movies about making movies" biopics. There's already a handful of those in development like Ben Affleck's movie about the making of Chinatown and not one but two projects about the making of The Godfather (one a movie with Jake Gyllenhaal and Oscar Isaac, the other a miniseries with Armie Hammer).

If something as sacred as the Lion King can get remade then Casablanca can too

Casablanca is higher on the “sacred piece of film history” ladder than TLK, at least when it comes to movie buffs. It also doesn’t have the commercial appeal of TLK.

I feel like remake when there is a technological change behind the format are much easier to pass (like every success got remade when sound appeared in movie I would imagine).

Casablanca is an odd/a propaganda trying to convince american society to engage against Nazy Germany in WW2 in more active ways (pearl harbor having occurred between the script amd filming, it changed the get into the war at all angle), you have actual WW2 refugees being the extra and out singing Germans with the Marseillaise, it is doubtful a remake has any chance to compete with that. The we always have Paris line when it was from people than when they shoot the scene, Paris was under Nazi occupation has a punch to it for an audience that cannot be replicated by an actor saying it in 2021. A lot of the movie power come for the very moment it was filmed

Specially that the storyline is so nonsensical and not very good, that there is little reason to re-use it, the magic paper that will make the Nazy magically no arrest a symbol of the resistance Macguffin would need quite the rework for a modern production, the funny sympathetic to audience character that is sleeping with woman refugee trying to buy from him a passage.

Remaking Casablanca, GodFather or the first Star Wars in live action do feel a step different than remaking the Lion King in that 3d/photorealistic affair, you do not have the issue with seeing different actor, the target audience for it I imagine care way less about being a remake in general and Beauty & Beast many other of that genre were remade, Lion King is close in astheatic/story to the shakespeare and fairy tales that is constantly being retold in a way, and everything is out of place/time/fantastic about it, that make it a good candidate to always be retold a la Cinderella, Arthur.

Casablanca is so much anchored to a specific moment in history in comparison.

Not even in the CAYOM world does that seem feasible.
