Regardless, it now appears that Warner Bros. is re-negotiating contracts and terms with all the top talent in their 2021 movies... so that tells us that they are acquiescing to industry demands.

Or you know they are just following though with what they said they would do when they made this announcement in the first place.  WB said at that time they would make right but all the talent had their feelings hurt because WB did not call them first.

It definitely doesn't look like things will go back to normal for the exhibition business this year, WB made the right decision for the company while also providing theater owners big movies to play and make some much needed cash to stay afloat. Disney will likely follow WB with this strategy, while the other studios will either delay movies even further (like Sony already started doing, with Morbius) or simply sell some of their big movies to a streaming service. Releasing those big movies in cinemas and on HBO Max and Disney+ is the best thing to do right now in my opinion, for both the studios and theater owners.

Yes, seeing how they said they would make it right when they made the announcement.  What reason is there to believe they wouldn't have kept their word?  At this point with all the crying from Villeneuve, Nolan, Legendary, Jenkins and the rest they should just open their films in February without the HBO Max and take the L and reset the market for the post theater world.

I imagine they're exploring their options/keeping them open. The Fantastic Beasts movies are on thin ice and perhaps they want to start putting their eggs in more than one basket. Perhaps there are some rumblings of letting other creators besides JK Rowling make content in that world?

 

Although the article did say that this guy Tom will be working with Rowling and her reps, so even though he's stated to be an "overseer" how much power does he really have? Just seems like he's an intermediary at best and doesn't have much executive power, I could be wrong.

I assume Rowling still ultimately has final say in the direction taken with the Harry Potter films, so I don’t see how this makes a difference. Unless Rowling decides to do what George Lucas did and sell the franchise wholesale, it doesn’t seem like WB will have a lot of freedom in terms of what they can do with the franchise.

This feud will last about as long as Soderbergh's "retirement" did if not less. He'll be back with them after making his next movie elsewhere (hopefully his next movie will also see him returning to making something like Memento or The Prestige again).

This feels unreasonable, the WB move didn't affect any film of his. Also, didn't they get his sister-in-law's film out of the advertisements, suggesting it will not be part of the HBO Max plan? It's not like the other big studios aren't also sending films to their streaming services, or selling them to Netflix, Amazon and Hulu.

 

I'm sure WB is willing to commit to a theatrical-only release for Nolan's projects.
