So what's the budget for this? I'm seeing all kinds of numbers being thrown around. From 185m to over 200m

Even too there is a lot of player involved, not sure we will get any clear budget number for this ever, we never got MadMax Fury Road budget either at the end (and the spread between the rumored budget was almost of 100m).

Budapest production do not make their budget public I think, will probably stay at the level of very big for an R-rated independent movie type of talk.

I’d probably say closer to 200M rather than 150M. Should get more concrete info next week

So WB has dom and Sony has OS? And they have gone 50-50 on the prod budget while WB takes care of dom marketing and Sony takes care of OS marketing?

They are not necessarily heavy on the production budget, WB had Cloud Atlas domestic but not that much involved in is financing for example.

Some rumors put a lot of the production on Alcon, spending their Blind Side fortune on Blade Runner (that could be why it has been referred has an independent movie by Villeneuve).

Those deal can take many form, the financier can also share the cost of releasing or not, studio can even be paid a fee to distribute (like Gibson needed to do with is movies) or get a percentage.

On Django Unchained for example Sony distributed intl, Weinstein domestic.

They split the production cost 50/50, Sony paying 43.4 of the around 87 million production budget, paid for the OS release and kept the OS revenues (well a lot of it went to the big above the names involved).

On American Hustle, half the budget was split but also half of the domestic release cost was paid by Annapurna, the other half by Sony.

On monument men it was a 50/50 single pot with Century Fox (Sony domestic, Fox inter)

It can change quite a bit from deal to deal, but yes it would not surprise me if WB and Sony pay the same on the production (if they pay a significant part) and each pay for their market distribution and get a share of that market gross.

Doesn't look like WB put any of their money into the production budget, only for marketing.

Per this new WSJ article https://www.wsj.com/articles/inside-the-remaking-of-blade-runner-1506354453?mod=e2fb, Sony contributed around $100m. WB is only distributing domestically because of 1. existing Alcon output deal and 2. because they hold release rights for any BR sequels anyway, and this workaround (making sure Warners handles DOM and the existing output deal) is how Alcon got the production rights. But it's basically an Alcon show, not even the credits mention WB but they do mention Sony. From the recent press blast of stills from WB:

Quote

Alcon Media Group presents, in association with Columbia Pictures, a Ridley Scott/Alcon Entertainment/Bud Yorkin production, in association with Torridon Films and 16:14 Entertainment, a Denis Villeneuve film. Opening domestically on October 6, 2017, in 2D and 3D in select theatres and IMAX, “Blade Runner 2049” will be distributed domestically by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and internationally by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

So WB paid for only dom marketing or global marketing? What happens to non-theatrical revenue...does Sony get a %?

WB loose OS theatrical revenue but they pay $0 towards production budget. So it's as good as a hypothetical case where the OS revenue pays for the production budget completely and cancels it out, and then Dom starts cutting into marketing budget. Great deal.

And if Sony has put in $100m and nothing else, and they have only OS theatrical to earn from then OS needs to be 300-350m. If they get a share from non-theatrical then they are much safer. In that case Alcon is in the riskiest place, WB safest and Sony in the middle but still relatively safe.

Dom marketing. Sony obviously paid for the intl marketing. On trailers and other creative assets used globally it was prob 50/50. So really a mix...

Non-theatrical, yeah maybe. need to check again what happened on Interstellar with Para...

So basically WB is all but guaranteed to make money on this.

#BladeRunner2049 is a true sequel in tune with the mood, pacing, tone, contemplative nature, and stark visual splendor of the original. #BladeRunner2049 is real sci-fi filmmaking. It makes the new Star Wars films look like live action LEGO movies. #BladeRunner2049 is NOT some action blockbuster. It is a hard sci-fi detective drama. They didn't reshape this to fit the mainstream.#BladeRunner2049 is nearly 3 hours and kept me entranced, tense, and engaged the entire time. That speaks volumes. The time flew by. In terms of science fiction filmmaking and world-building, #BladeRunner2049 might be a masterpiece. I think I loved it. Want to see it again See #BladeRunner2049 on the biggest screen with the best sound possible. This is transportive filmmaking. It completely drew me in. #BladeRunner2049 is also a Denis Villeneuve movie through and through. Chilly, oppressive, gut-wrenchingly effective , and utterly human.

BLADE RUNNER 2049 is great. The third act is fire. Denis' run continues.

@colliderfrosty: Everyone bow down to Denis Villeneuve. He’s done the impossible and delivered a huge home run with 'Blade Runner 2049'. Loved it. Blade Runner 2049 is absolutely loaded with spoilers. Even the plot of the film is a spoiler. If you are going to see it avoid reviews.

@jasonosia: BLADE RUNNER 2049: The thrill of mood and extensional joys of self-reflection. Villeneuve’s slow-burn obsessions have never felt more SEEN. Unsurprisingly a powerful piece of personal perplexity. Felt like a museum that takes you a full week to explore and appreciate the grandeur Minor quibbles with a third-act reveal (NO SPOILERS, and not what you think), but besides that, Denis Villeneuve does his papi Scott proud.

Our own @JimmytotheO calls @bladerunner "Astonishing... More than just a visual wonder, it's a groundbreaking science fiction masterpiece."

I’ve seen #BladeRunner2049. I looks amazing, the characters and performances are strong, stays true to the original but it has some flaws.
