Break the Tie: Tonight vs. Constant Sorrow vs. I Believe I can Fly vs. Turn the Beat Around vs.

Recommended Posts

The voting is now closed for the top 100 movie songs of all-time and all of the ballots have been counted. However, there are some ties. I need your help in breaking these ties. So every morning I will post songs that are tied for a specific spot. The voting will last until the next morning, when I will post the next tie that needs to be broken.Anyone can vote on these songs, whether you voted for the top 100 songs or you didn't . All you have to do is put the songs in the order you believe that they deserve. I will count all the votes and that will determine which one wins the tie-breaker. I won't tell you what position they are tied for, so you will only know that certain songs are tied. In case of a tie, I will subtract my own vote to decide who wins the tie-breaker. It's only fair, since I know the position that the songs are tied for.I can say this: one of the days that you vote, you will be voting to break the tie for the 100th spot. There are multiple songs tied for 98 and when you rank those songs, one song will miss the top 100 entirely.Today's vote is to break the tie between:1. Tonight (West Side Story)2. Constant Sorrow (O Brother Where Art Thou?)3. I BELIEVE I CAN FLY (SPACEJAM)4. Turn the Beat Around (The Specialist)5. Strangers Like Me – (Tarzan)Please vote by ranking these songs in order from best to worst.

No disrespect here because I know this is a lot of work that you are doing here Walt, but how can there be this many ties when we submitted 100 songs? It just seems odd that this many songs had the exact same ranking.

Every song received points from 1-100 depending on where they were ranked. If a song didn't appear on more than one ballot, then it only has the points from that 1 vote. From song 54 down to 100 we ended up with a lot of 1 vote songs or songs with 2 votes, but only 1 ranked it highly. Therefore, we are gridlocked from songs 54-100. We also ended up with a few ties on the top, even though those songs received multiple votes. In total, we ended up with approximately 23 different ties of either 2, 3 , 4 , or 5 songs (about 65 songs that are stuck in a tie). It doesn't seem fair for me to choose who wins a certain tie, so the only fair thing to everyone who voted is to have tie breaker votes. This is our last 5-way tie, then there are two or three 4-ways, and then the rest are 2-way or 3-way ties.On a good note, there are no ties from the songs ranked 1-13.
