Fantastic movie with great casting. Phenomenally directed by Steven Spielberg. This movie has everything. It is fun, touching and above all is perfect for audiences of all age group even though it is primarily a kids movie.

A true Classic.

A+

This also showed the world the immense versatility of Spielberg.

1975 Jaws

1977 Close Encounters

1979 1941

1981 Raiders

1982 E.T.

Imagine the adulation for Spielberg on this site if it was '82 and he was coming off Jaws, Close Encounters, Raiders and E.T. People think people get out of hand with here Nolan. I can't even imagine Spielberg in his prime with this site existing...

I think it's more likely that Spielberg being todays Cameron instead of Nolan if internet existed back then. He would receive a lot of backlash and many would call Spielberg got lucky with those boxoffice hits and he didn't deserve it.

I hated this for almost a decade. When I started tracking the box office and realised just how huge it was at the time, I wanted to understand why. So I watched it again and I got it.

heh. you are such a comformist.

i hope ET crashed again and died.

It's alright. Felt nothing for the ET or the kid, but it doesn't commit the cardinal sin of being too boring, so that's something.

I have no idea how people could strongly feel one way or another.

So today I decided to rewatch E.T. only to realize that despite studying it and hearing so much about it, I've never actually seen the damn thing. Huh, what do you know?

Anyways, it's pretty good. I mean E.T.'s puppet is sadly outdated now and there's some silly stuff but overall, this is the kind of story you wished would have happened to you when you were a child.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is pure magic. Spielberg's direction has rarely been as touching and marvelous as it is in this film. Elliot and ET's friendship is believable and heartwarming, with Henry Thomas delivering one of the greatest child actor performances ever. ET himself is technically astounding, not once appearing false to the audience or to his friends. The way Spielberg uses divorce as a backdrop to further the emotional connection is brilliant, and particularly, his use of lighting in every scene is incredible, always managing to draw out the appropriate mystique and emotion at every possible moment. Humorous and heartfelt, the film's legacy as one of Spielberg's best will also live on for decades and decades to come. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is a classic of the family film genre, still amazing audiences to this day. A+
