I vote for Espinosa. Guy has some talent. Life was much better than it had any right to be. I would argue it was the best big budget sci-fi R rated horror movie this summer. This is coming from someone who liked Alien Covenant....but yeah...bomb it was.

I wonder what the line-up is? Obviously Constantine, Zatanna and Deadman will be involved since those 3 are considered the trinity of that team but who else?

The animated film included Etrigan plus Black Orchid and Swamp Thing in smaller roles but the comics included Shade and Madam Xanadu as founders... Then of course you have fan favorites like Dr Fate to consider as well. I'd be cool with any of those characters making the roster, though I'm really pulling for Black Orchid since Latino supeheroes are so rare on the big screen!

When Del Toro was developing it, it was going to be Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing, Etrigan, the Spectre and the Phantom Stranger.

Interesting line-up. I feel Spectre and Phantom Stranger are way too powerful to include on a team though. Plus I'd like another female on the team (Xanadu, Orchid, Amethyst).

I think Swamp Thing is a lock, especially since he is placed here with Zatanna and Constantine in SDCC's clear reveal of the DCEU intro logo line-up (Edit: Though now that I look at the enlarged version, it looks more like The Spectre. I just assumed it was ST due to the green and because they placed Poison Ivy right in front of him)

You can see Doctor Fate near the far left as well.

As for Latino superhero representation, there have been year long talk that Eiza Gonzalez is a frontrunner to play Zatanna based on the tweets from her official account and the fact that Geoff Johns is following her.

She teased being on the WB lot a couple of days ago as well.

Yeah I think Swamp Thing is a lock too, a long with Etrigan. Question is will there be a 6th member and if so, who? Hopefully another female.

As for Latinos, I'm aware of Eiza but I'd rather she play an actual Latino character like Black Orchid instead of race swapping Zatanna.

Why would that even matter for Zatanna? It really doesn't.

There are a shitload of Latino actors out there, if they need one to play Black Orchid they can just choose another one.

Agreed. Zatanna's race is irrelevant but she's a more prominent character than Black Orchid so it would be neat if a Latina actress nabbed the role.

And Antonio Banderas should play her dad. :D

I hate the name for this thing. It's as much stupid as Dark Avengers and that came before JLD. They should just go with a different name. I really like Hellblazers and I'm not sure why people think that's not a good idea.

The lifesaver that I am will provide options to help you figure that out. Hellblazers sounds like a:

1.) Porn website

2.) Swedish strip club

3.) Vintage blue film

4.) Aging biker gang

5.) All of the above

Well. To me it's a comeback to this:

I find your tone condenscending and completely ignorant to John Constantine's mythology, but to each their own. It just has a better, more original and linked to one of these characters mythology that makes it stand out without sounding silly like Justice League Dark. Just like Thunderbolts is better than Dark Avengers. I really think it fits what they are going for a film like this and I think it's a cool name. The perception you have of that name comes from a weird place to me. Since I was a kid, Hellblazer has always been related to John Constantine. And I'm not a naive kid whatsoever, and I really don't think it's a language barrier thing. Do you even know the characters they are talking about? How the hell can you think all those things about the name Hellblazer instead of thinking about Constantine instantly?

Oh well, allow me to school you, then:

Quote

Hellblazer (also known as John Constantine, Hellblazer) is an American contemporary horror comic book series, originally published by DC Comics, and subsequently by the Vertigo imprint since March 1993 when the imprint was introduced. Its central character is the streetwise magician John Constantine, who was created by Alan Moore and Stephen R. Bissette, and first appeared as a supporting character in The Saga of the Swamp Thing #37 (June 1985), during that creative team's run on that title. Hellblazer had been published continuously since January 1988, and was Vertigo's longest running title, the only remaining publication from the imprint's launch.[1] In 2013, the series concluded with issue 300, and has been replaced by a DC Universe title, Constantine.[2] It was then relaunched in 2016 with the title The Hellblazer. Well known for its political and social commentary, the series has spawned a film adaptation, television show, novels, and multiple spin-offs and crossovers.

The series was the longest-running and one of the most successful titles of DC's Vertigo imprint, and was the stepping stone to many British writers. Notable writers who have contributed to the series include Jamie Delano, Garth Ennis, Paul Jenkins, Warren Ellis, Grant Morrison, Neil Gaiman, Mike Carey, Andy Diggle, and Peter Milligan. Hellblazer was one of the first modern occult detective fiction works and heavily influenced the genre to come.

Friendly reminder that names like Guardians of the Galaxy, Suicide Squad and even Deadpool were deemed stupid once. I really like Hellblazers better than JLD. Hopefully they will drop the name because it sucks. I just can't see a bad ass like Constantine joining a "Justice League" team, dark or not. Now a supernatural team to prevent some hell related end of the world stuff? Hell yeah.

Because race swapping is incredibly insulting. Its basically saying, oh sorry the actual minority characters we do have aren't good enough so we're just going to change this White characters race instead. It's a cop out.

I'll take charcters like Black Panther, El Diablo, Cyborg, Amanda Waller, Falcon, Katana...etc over race swaps like Deadshot, Heimdall...etc anyday!

Black Orchid is actually Latino, in the comics and cartoons so using her and bolstering her overall profile is a huge win in my book.

There were 3 Black Orchids who preceded the Latina one and all of them were white or a plant hybrid. Most people who are aware of the character think of the one from the Neil Gaiman miniseries in the 80's, which Rachel McAdams (a Caucasian actress) was campaigning to be made into a star vehicle for herself.

Zatanna and her father OTOH are Italian but it's not verified which part of Italy their family hails from so they were well could be POC. So I don't understand how portraying Zatanna as Latina is insulting while Black Orchid is fine. Does it come down to just establishing the character as Latina or having Latin heritage in the comics? That seems like an incredibly, incredibly trivial factor to draw such a big line over.

I'm aware of the previous 3 versions of Black Orchid, however none of them have an association with the JLD. Only Alba Garcia was a member and she is the one with the most comicbook appearances to date as well.

I want REAL, LEGIT Latino characters. Characters that are undeniably of Latin American descent in every medium they appear in whether it's comics, cartoons, video games or live action (ie Blue Beetle, Jessica Cruz, El Diablo and yes Black Orchid). Zatanna isn't Latino, in fact she's been portrayed as White (with blue eyes none the less) in comics, cartoons and video games. So race swapping her is insulting and huge cop out considering she'll still be White in comics/cartoons/video games.

I would LOVE if the team consisted of Zatanna, Hellblazer, Black Orchid, Swamp Thing, Manitou Dawn, Deadman, and Etrigan.

I deeply dislike the name "Hellblazers."  It sounds real silly and nineties-esque.

Might as well call the team Constantine and His Amazing Friends.

99.9% of superhero movie audiences don't read the comics. And features like colored eyes are not exclusively Caucasian traits. DC will subtly draw Zatanna as racially ambiguous if Eiza or another Latina actress is cast. They are slowly but surely going that route with Wonder Woman and Aquaman too.
