This seens like the case of they read it on Deadline, twisted it a bit.

And TBH they may be true but what I am not able to believe is the number quoted is the one which Mojo wrongfully have. Chances of which being accurate are lol.

Besides Warner Bros hasn't officially mailed the benchmark as they will in case of such thing and handles like Box Office Report, Gitesh Pandya, etc will tweet.

@Shawn can tell us if he received something officially.

That is an official press release lol. It's as official as it gets.

I consider myself a big Potter fan and was waiting for this day to come, but it hasn't yet.

It will be official when, handles like Boxoffice, BORReport, Gitesh Pandya, etc. will tweet it. I am not believing Deadline who simply added Maoyan numbers to whatever they saw on Mojo.

If the accounts I mentioned, also post same numbers I will believe them with grain of salt.

BORReport followed my old ID, I would have directly asked him if he receive the mail or not. For now only @Shawn can clarify.

If any further proof as if this number is made up by Deadline, Mojo also updated the same number to their site.

In doing so, they added the residue amount to Monday, which is what Maoyan's overestimated number were last night.

https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl1481278209/?ref_=bo_gr_rls

The correct number for Monday and Tuesday as per official Chinese box office are $3,235,700.

You won't believe an official press release from the studio? That's just kinda arrogant lol. You're saying you know more than the guys who actually made and distributed the movie.

Very true.

I’m not sure any average joe knows better than the people from the movie studios themselves. Even those who has been here since BOT started. It’s so unpredictable.

Oh. Just saw that. That does look like something official. And wow the odds of almost matching the number with Mojo's glitch.

Still just wanna see if @Shawn can confirm what figure they received.

Day - Gross / Shows / Occupancy

Dying To Survive

Saturday - ¥14.5mn / 14k / 25%

Sunday - ¥35.6mn / 23k / 36%

Tuesday - ¥48.2mn / 26k / 43%

Wednesday - ¥65.5mn / 31k / 47%

Thursday OD - ¥160mn / 147k / 23%

Friday - ¥241mn / 169k / 29%

Saturday - ¥386mn / 188k / 41%

Sunday - ¥386mn / 196k / 40%

The Eight Hundred

Friday - ¥14.3mn / 7k / 34%

Monday -¥50.2mn / 18k / 41%

Tuesday - ¥50.4mn / 29k / 30%

Wednesday - ¥55.5mn / 41k / 24%

The occupancy of DTS on Friday as 2nd day was 29%, say it would have been 30-32% if it was OD. However, in case of DTS occupancy was increasing in previews, while in 800 case it's decreasing. Yesterday it was just 24% on 41k shows, while DTS was 43% on 26k shows on preview 2 days before OD or on a more comparable Tuesday 800 was 30% against 43% of DTS, i.e. about 70%, while an adjusted 74% if show count was same.

Now granted, 800 will have less shows than DTS had on its Friday release, I think 72.5-75% of DTS occupancy of adjusted Friday is probable, i.e 22-24%.

Expecting 125k shows for 800 tomorrow, the capacity will be ¥750mn. ¥160-180mn OD is possible. We may see first ¥200mn, or even ¥250mn day on Saturday.

That said, being bold, I am expecting ¥160mn OD and ¥625mn weekend.

Hey @charlie Jatinder,

Unfortunately we haven't heard anything from the studio yet. Only unconfirmed sources thus far, though I'm sure it's generally accurate.

Yeah I also saw the og PR which only had worldwide number.

It is very rare a film cross this important benchmark and the reporting is this vague. Thanks for clarifying.

Just noticed there are a lot of really good Maoyan scores near the top of the box office right now. 800 at 9.2 is of course blowing everything else away in magnitude of business, but then you’ve also got:

HP1 9.3

Onward 9.2

Interstellar 9.3

SWaS 9.4

At 16:00 CST, 800 is at ¥73.70mn. Should be able to reach ¥150mn ($21.7mn).

Spoiler

Time
Friday
Gross Change Change % % of total
Presales ¥27.10     17.97%
03:00 ¥28.50 ¥1.40 5.17% 18.90%
10:00 ¥32.00 ¥3.50 12.28% 21.22%
12:00 ¥40.10 ¥8.10 25.31% 26.60%
14:00 ¥56.60 ¥16.50 41.15% 37.54%
16:00 ¥73.70 ¥17.10 30.21% 48.88%
18:00 ¥91.13 ¥17.43 23.65% 60.44%
20:00 ¥123.08 ¥31.95 35.06% 81.63%
22:00 ¥146.02 ¥22.94 18.64% 96.85%
Final ¥150.78 ¥4.75 3.26% 100.00%
PSm 5.56
3Sm 5.29

Am using SM:FFH hourly for comp but Maoyan is bit faulty now, so using 2 hours difference. Also unlike SM:FFH last year, the numbers show big jump during 20:00-22:00 in last few days, so that may take it bit higher but that we only can see when that actually happen.
