Judging by the trailer League of gods looked abysmal:lol:, I don't think Chinese audiences easily fall for bad quality like that anymore, they are really getting more selective.

Skiptrace looks even worse...

Mermaid's trailer is the worst one. Both CGI and storyline are so poor tbh. It just some parts are fucking hilarious. Thank to Stephen Chow and the superb performances by Deng Chao and Show Luo.

TMK 2 has superb CGI but poor plot.

There will be fantasy blockbuster release every week (July.29-August.19). Not to mention next year. Most of big budget movies are fantasy that heavily rely on CGI. Have no idea if League of Gods can do well or not but the CGI isn't that bad imo. And this is probably Jet Li's latest movie. Ask for Skiptrace, Jackie Chan films have never had good plot. Maybe audiences just want to see some stunning scenes. Actually, it's better to watch his classic movie.

I just found out that this movie:

Made 225,456,800 RMB last weekend. Great! Maybe it can beat Zootopia.

It topped Zootopia's OD and OW but won't make half of Zootopia's total gross. Big Fish didn't have good wom, unfocused storyline and complicated characters. The hype comes from it was 12 years in making. Sadly, it turns out to be under-expected.

This is true ?

"It's been confirmed that Ghostbusters won't be coming to China, because they think it's not really that attractive to Chinese audiences," says one Chinese executive. "Most of the Chinese audience didn't see the first and second movies, so they don't think there's much market for it here," the exec adds.

Sony isn't commenting, but a Hollywood source with knowledge of the situation says the film hasn't been officially submitted for approval by Chinese regulators.

His acting in SOWK last year is fine but this Never Gone's acting is so poor. SO DISAPPOINTED!

It won't make half of So Young's BO 3 years ago. EMBARRASSING!

July will be down for sure. This weekend openers are far from last year MH, JBM & TMK, still wait to see if Skiptrace & League of Gods next- next week can save it. Looks like it won't.

I watched the movie and both Liu Yifei and Kris Wu had questionable acting in some scenes but the erratic plot was the biggest thing that detracted from the movie. Just checked and the director is a first time director. No wonder. It's interesting that Kris Wu is the focus of the "bad acting" comments though when there were some scenes where Liu Yifei could not emote in any way and her line delivery and tone stayed the same throughout the whole movie. Considering she is counted as a veteran and has been acting for years - that's unacceptable. Kris is still a newbie actor and there's always room for improvement especially since this was just an idol/youth movie anyway and he still has the highest box office draw among his peers. I think his performance will be better in Sweet Sixteen.

As for not making half of So Young's BO - no youth film is going to ever beat So Young. Nothing to do with the film's quality but it's just not gonna happen. So Young was a first time fluke.

Curious to see how the Yang Yang/Liu Yifei movie will do. It's backed by Alibaba Pictures. I personally find Yang Yang a very bland actor so I'm not looking forward to his performance but it is based on a popular book so it's anticipated.

League of Gods is a comeback project from a dormant film company so there's a lot riding on it.

So I'm confused. Are they just choosing not to release it over there? Because there have also been several posters who said Ghostbusters is officially not getting a China release.

A friend worked in Beijing told me it was hard for GB to get a release date one week ago.

Okay. I would assume your friend was correct because it's gotten to the US press that Ghostbusters isn't being released there. I don't think Sony would allow it to come out it wasn't getting released in China, if that weren't the case.

On a side note you're not the only poster who has stated as such. There's another poster who commented in one of the weekday threads that Ghostbusters wasn't getting a release date in China and that Sony was going to try to go ahead with The Shallows. I think you said the same thing as well. I don't know how true the latter part is but I would assume at this point that Ghostbuster isn't getting a release date in China.
