Finally I can say it: 800 is one of the best war pic I've ever seen. Definitely the best choice to save cinemas at this point. Ready for it to smash!

They dare to put it up at this time for a reason!

Remember the rumour that it was supposed to come out in Dec 2019? It would have cut maybe more than half out of Sheep without Shepherd's box office... but now is a great time also to save the market. Maybe Disney China is looking closely also before booking Mulan.

No film in their right mind wants to be stuck between 800 and Tenet..

Prisoner of Azkaban wasn't released in China?

If yes, they should release this one next then. 🙂

Figure released by Douban/ Mtimes before HP 7.2 was released.

HP3 is in the 3rd row, and it made RMB62m. The 1st HP made only RMB21m. and each sequel gross more than the last entry.

In the plot twist, China beat domestic as the biggest box office zone in 2020.

Man I really hope they screen this in the US in the future. Hopefully I will get to see it on the big screen someday

Nice to see Harry Potter’s first film make some money in China. So far, Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone is at $984M WW ($16M away from $1B), though it might be updated with the China-gross soon enough.

984 is wrong, if you are picking from Mojo.

The original run was $975.8mn. $2.5mn re-releases in Europe, $2.2mn in South Korea. $1mn Domestic. That gave $981.5mn. There may be some smaller re-releases.

$4.75mn today in China, so $986.25mn.

So Maoyan app opened registration for outside China, and there are no "I" letter countries allowed. Only "I" is the exception.

Blocking India would make sense but all "I" nations. 😕

I hope they don't close the box office reporting to just registered accounts.

Edit: ok seems like those aren't ISD code but China's local code. Why no I still.

Harry Potter

International

Original run - $657,179,821 (I found a $658.2mn in 2003 archive, but will be taking this just being conservative)

Korea 2018 re-release - $2,080,000

France 2018 re-release - $1,200,000

UK various re-releases - $950,000

Bulgaria 2004 re-release - $345,000

Germany 2004 re-release - $240,000

Netherlands 2020 re-release - $140,000

Rest Europe misc re-releases - $400,000

Random re-releases - $250,000

Total - $662,780,000

China - $9,400,000 (2 Days)

Total - $672,200,000

Domestic

Original release - $317,575,550

2018 Re-release - $295,917

Other re-releases - $500,000

Total - $318,371,000

Worldwide - $990,575,000

As per my calculations, $9.43mn to go for Billion Dollar. Warner may have information we don't have.

Well weekend take;

Harry Potter: ¥95mn ($13.7mn) weekend. Good start, though expected a bit better. Should be able to do another ¥45mn ($6.5mn) or so before 800 go wide next Friday. Biggest Hollywood film of 2020 till Mulan release. Full run ¥175mn ($25mn.)

Bad Boys For Life: ¥22mn ($3.2mn). SKIP.

The Eight Hundred: ¥14.5mn ($2.1mn) previews on Friday. The film WOM is great, there will be previews throughout weekdays, which I think can take it to ¥105-140mn ($15-20mn)before going wide. Let' see.

Interstellar: ¥12mn ($1.7mn). -60%. Total ¥112mn. Guess will do another ¥10mn or so.

Dolittle: ¥6mn ($875k). -58%. ¥130mn ($18.8mn) total. Another ¥5mn or so.
