The White Storm 2 officially announces moving to July 5 to fill the ultra empty slot from July 19. The cop actioner was original dated July 12.

Good for TLK. It should have a pretty open ride now?

not a total ban on Disney. China didnt stop importing films by Disney as I remember.

Today things will be different, much uglier, if something similar happens though.

This is an excerpt from the article:-

In the end, Disney decided that it could not let an overseas government influence its decision to distribute a movie in the United States. “Kundun” was released, and

China retaliated by banning Disney films and pulling “The Dragon Club.”

All of our business in China stopped overnight,” Disney’s chief executive at the time, Michael D. Eisner, recalled.

It is still possible that the two comes out in Dec or next year. If they can not be released in theaters, then they can not be released in any other platform.

Okay. And that happens with absolutely ZERO compensation?

They did ban Disney (or at least all of its content) and for years Disney suffered there as a consequence. Many years later and after a long and concerted effort by Disney, relationships began to mend. And thanks to Iger (and his closeness to Xi) in specific, today Disney has perhaps the best relationship of any studio in China.

You can read all about their efforts and how Iger made Disney what it is today in China in this very interesting article - https://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/15/business/international/china-disney.html

didnt read the article. thanks.

So in 1998, no Disney film in Chinese theaters, only that year. And in some way, Disney is being censored by China. It was a bit like Sony Columbia censored by N Korea in 2013..
