Beijing regulators have ordered cinemas to give 45 percent screen share to the Friday opening of a lavish propaganda film celebrating the People’s Liberation Army.

Quote

Last week, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television issued a directive to local cinema chains large and small requiring them to ensure that the movie opens on at least 45 percent of all Chinese screens. Senior management of the largest chains also were called into a meeting at the Film Bureau in Beijing last week for a discussion of the order, sources tell THR.

"We have been trying to negotiate a lower screen share, because 45 percent will be very difficult to reach and could seriously hurt our revenue for the weekend," says a manager of a nationwide chain who was present at the meeting (the individual asked not to be named due to the sensitivity of speaking out against government propaganda policy).

"We're hoping to get down to at least 40 percent," the manager said, adding that the process did not look hopeful.

Wolf Warrior 2 previews over 75 million with the same level showtimes of The Great Wall(49 million previews)

Wolf Warrior's preview may be a mistake. Word of Mouth is similar to Wu Kong.. Maoyan below 8 doesn't bold well.

Maoyan was at 7.9, now suddenly jumped to 8.6 for wolf warriors 2.

Read some reviews from other countries - average popcorn film.

Wolf Warriors 2 is breaking non-holiday OD record of local films as well as summer OW record of all films, heading to 2B+. Monster Hunt might go down.

WOM really that good? Its going to need some kind of legs for that when we take a look at other blockbusters this year

Could it be the controversy surrounding the army making audience "vote" for WW2 , and end up WW2 has much better in term of box office and rating?

That's one of those reasons. WW2 can attract both younger and older audience. Too many young actors from Army and many of them don't have great WOM because of high salary and stinking acting.

The interesting thing is that WW2 Maoyan score is higher after Army's distributor deleted all 1/5 and 2/5 reviews of their movie.

is that order of 45% of the screen must be allocated for Army still valid? the showtime percentage show otherwise, around 31%

Army performed terribly.....with that huge share of showtimes....
