IW presales down just 15%. Sunday might reach 40m!

Solo presales down 40%. Will probably miss $10m mark even.

$15 is touch and go if it doesn't hit $10 ow.

Most of the people expected to Solo to bomb in China due to TLJ, RO reception and a general non-interest in SW now but the funny thing is there are a lot of markets which are bleeding for Solo. So China's performance won't become an anomaly. This is the only positive way I can spin Solo's OS performance.

Maybe not an anomaly given the general trend, in fact, it's performances overseas truly shocks me, and I thought I was cynical toward Star Wars. Though from the other perspective, we're talking about a market soon to become number 1 in the world, and a SW movie is about to gross $15M in its total run, that's still an anomaly, and a pretty hilarious one..

Solo Sunday

Solo’s Sunday PS is at 3.35m Yuan down about 40.5% from Saturday’s PS. Screen count is also down about 8k to 59.5k.

TLJ on its first Sunday fell 31.5%. Solo needs to fall 26.9% or better tomorrow to get to 10m usd OW.

Solo fell better than TLJ on Saturday by about 7% or so, so it could have a better fall but 30% is kind of the standard fall for movies.

I think Solo will miss 10m mark but probably not by much.

Amazing result for Disney and Marvel. Except MCU I think only TLK have a chance to pass 300M here

JW2 as POTUS said.

Also I have this funny feeling that Christopher Robin could break out somewhat, purely because of how cute it is. Not sure how familiar chinese audiences are with Pooh though.

The other one is Wreck-It-Ralph, the first wasn't released in China from what I can see, but the theme of the 2nd (breaking the internet), feels like a concept that could explode worldwide.

Either way, bar JW2, every single film we've mentioned is Disney

JW2 opens one a long holiday weekend(Sat- Monday will be holiday).

But competitions seem to be tougher than IW.

Still I think 300M is not hard for it as long as WOM doesn't suck.

I don't think you mentioning only Disney films is a sign of Disney's strength, but a sign of your biases. Saying Christopher Robin just seems to me like throwing out random Disney films without much evidence, I would predict something like Skyscraper to make more.

I was saying CR because we've seen before that the female audience come out in masses for well-made films that are cute, Zootopia being an example although animation.

Also, iirc Peter Rabbit and Paddington 2 hit well in China, which bodes well for CR.

EDIT: I don't recall correctly apparently, both PR and P2 made about $30m in China, whoops :/

I guess you're right, my Disney bias just decided to throw it in, sorry about that!
