The Toymaker
Skyfall would not make $100m in China even if it was the only foreign movie released in a whole year.
JCS
I thought Skyfall could do great in China as part of it is set in China. We will never know with it being released close to The Hobbit now.
The Toymaker
That doesn't affect Chinese audiences. They don't care where it's set, just look at Looper. In fact, Chinese consumers like foreign product regardless of connections with their home country, and Bond is just another generic action movie, nothing special. The Expendables 2 made $54m, and Bond is not that much more special than TE.
A Marvel Fanboy
At this point, Skyfall could do anywhere between 50M~70M. Saturday: Bait 3D huge jump. Taken 2 looks to finish its run around 16M, based on 2nd weekend.
The Toymaker
China will be Bait's largest market, obviously, as all it's got to beat is $2m from Russia.
A Marvel Fanboy
Will be its #1 market after OW.

John Marston
Skyfall had potential for 100m. The last one made 21m in 2008. The same amount as MI3

Fake
How much for Hobbit? I'm think 70-80m.

The Toymaker
It does make Skyfall a bit more appealing though as it is partly set in China.I accept your opinion, but I disagree. There's no proof to suggest that films set in China are more appealing than those that are not. For Christ's sake, even Chinese made films made and set in China are not very popular! It makes no difference, and is not a factor in whether a movie does well.

The Toymaker
That's about Chinese Kung Fu. It has little to do with it being set in China, and anyway, animated movies for kids always do well.
A Marvel Fanboy
You guys wont believe this: Bait 3D, Friday close to $2M, Saturday close to $2.7M. OW should be close to $7M; second biggest horror opening EVER.
The Toymaker
I believe it. Audiences when I've seen the trailer have always seemed interested in it, and China is a sucker for 3D releases, regardless of the quality of them. I think we'll be seeing more of these in China in the next few years. I just hope that the performance of this film worldwide will force the producers not to make more. A Marvel Fanboy
I was thrilled when China acounted 50% of Titanic 3D release's worldwide gross. Guess what, Bait 3D (6.6M WW excluding China) already beat the T3D ratio after OW. It can do 15M in total in China, more than double its worldwide gross w/o China. Bait 3D in China = 1800% its domestic take Edited October 14, 2012 by firedeep
