iceroll
Goddammit China, the one Hollywood movie that needed to fail (After Earth) makes 13.5m OW? That's like half the domestic opening.

alee7915
After Earth' Survives in China After Earth was going to need a big push overseas if it wanted to mitigate the damage it suffered at the North American box office. It has been a good summer for sci-fi abroad, with Oblivion posting a $197 million overseas cume and Star Trek Into Darkness earning $222.5 million outside of North America. After Earth hasn't reached those heights yet, but a $13.8 million opening in China after being released on July 11 will be enough to push the film past the $150 million overseas mark. The $13.8 million debut isn't necessarily a blockbuster opening for After Earth and is unlikely to carry the film to the heights of recent blockbusters like Tiny Times($77.4M) and Man of Steel ($65M). The gross is similar to last week's Blind Detective premiere, which grossed $13.9 million from a Thursday opening. Blind Detective held well in its second week of release, grossing an additional $12.6 million to reach a $26.9 million cume, according to a story from The Hollywood Reporter. Man of Tai Chi tumbled further down the chart this week. The directorial debut of Keanu Reeves flopped in its opening frame last week and posted an underwhelming $1.8 million this week to bring its cume to $4.42 million. http://www.boxoffice.com/china/2013-07-15-after-earth-survives-in-china Edited July 15, 2013 by lady gaga

But there are new releases on both Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Its daily gross will keep dropping.

Daily gross will drop even if it's on weekend? So the screen count must be dropping every day from now until its run ends on Sunday. Chinese BO sure is interesting

Tough luck for MOS. But well, it did great and succeeded our expectations already. Sur la piste du Marsupilami, is that an animated movie about this adorable fictional species? I remembered watching cartoons about them, very cute creatures, pretty good cartoon too.

A Marvel Fanboy
Roland Emmerich was in Beijing today promoting White House Down. AE crossed 100M yuan on Monday. Solid performance so far. Seems bad reviews didnt hurt it at all. Btw, latest words on WWZ is that it is still in play to manage a China release; Smurfs 2 is said to be possibly released early in August. More: After some re-editing work done by Paramount, WWZ fate should be decided within this week. The Lone Ranger didn't pass the censors. Universal still havent submitted DM2. The Wolverine was greenlighted and could have an August release.

POLYLOVE
Auguest is fine. Sep is bad. No room for it anymore. PR and MU need to breathe. And don't forget TT2 will eat up many screens. No big title has been set for early and mid of Sept so far.
