Lihongkim
Friday est Tiger Mountain 77M, 611M/$98.4M Wow....The Taking of Tiger Mountain 2nd Friday higher than 1st one... Tsui Hark's movies are always creative action styles. Re-release Kungfu movies will be the first coming for local hit 2015 : The Grandmaster 3D (1.8.2015) Kungfu Hustle 3D (1.15.2015). Fantaboy
NATM3 has a horrible release date as TAS2 did. But the presales look good so far. $4m OD, and $65m total, I guess.
A Marvel Fanboy
Thanks. I hear the realestate market in China are having trouble, so maybe it will be easier to buy cheap and build bigger in 2015... You're welcome, f... Yes, the housing price seems to be stabilizing at the moment. And that's actually good news. China's realestate industry has already sucked too much money and greatly restrained residents purchasing power. Wow....The Taking of Tiger Mountain 2nd Friday higher than 1st one... Tsui Hark's movies are always creative action styles. Re-release Kungfu movies will be the first coming for local hit 2015 : The Grandmaster 3D (1.8.2015) Kungfu Hustle 3D (1.15.2015). Agreed. It's hard to imagine so many people would go to see such a red movie if it's not for Tsui's name and the film is actually good. If there is a box office A-list for Chinese directors who could pull 1 billion-plus grossing Chinese language blockbusters, I would say Stephen Chow, Ning Hao, Xu Zheng, Tsui Hark will all be on the list. Justin Lin could join them as well if this summer's Hollywood Adventures does 1B. Ang Lee would be there too, if he makes big Chinese language films again. Feng Xiaogang and Jiangwen on the other hand both seem to have peaked. The guy who directed The Monkey King (2014) does not count ...
A Marvel Fanboy
Firedeep! I need ur yearly analysis Please! What's to analyse ... Sorcerer Supreme posted some good 2014 numbers. After Bullets bombed (grossing just a bit over 500m on a 400m total budget so it has to be a mega bomb with The Crossing), I feel I have lost my sense LOL. Had Bullets just flopped, not bombed, or had Film Bureau put Mockingjay and Big Hero Six in 2014, 30 billion would have been done. Olive
The 4 wide releases in the 2nd week of TH3 may not be super big, but they will occupy big share of showtimes.
Rsyu
Miss Granny was one of the most popular films in Korea last year. The storyline is interesting and I'm curious as to what the Chinese cast can bring to it. Hope it does well.
Olive
Yeah, I loved the Korean version, curious to see how the Chinese one looks like. Early WOM is solid.
A Marvel Fanboy
Miss Granny has a great release date. By Jan 8, Tiger Mountain will be on its 16th day and have done most of its business. Annie, KF3D and Seventh Son will take screens but they are no blockbuster. There are 19 days until Hobbit 3. That's a blockbuster-level release window. the room is there. Let's see if MG could take the advantage. MG director Cheng-Tao Chen's The Great Hypnotist was very well received last year. Seventh Son could be doomed. Hobbit 3 will kill it after only 7 days. Two Western fantasies at the same time, dont think so.... On Hobbit's 2nd weekend, BB2+Unbroken+Goat whatever 2015+RM combined could outgross Hobbit 3. The four movies will definitely take the most screens (maybe close to 60%). The first two Hobbit movies didnt have very strong legs in China: AUJ ---- 116m 3-days OW ---- 315m total ----- 2.71x AUJ ---- 202m 3-days OW ---- 462m total ----- 2.28x So wouldnot be surprised with 700/300 (2.33x) this time. And then, if you think Museum 3 has the worst release date so far, you would probably be wrong ... Mockingkay could easily top it. After 5 days, those rom-coms on VD will replace it on most screens; after 11 days (CNY), it will be competely gone from theaters. But well, at least it has 4/5 free days.... Fantaboy
NATM3' presales are much better than I expected especially on wanda&hipiao cinema chains. If it opens on a Friday I would say $7m OD, but it's not. Hope it can hit $6m. Edited January 3, 2015 by Fantaboy
