Am I the only one who don't think Minions can do 1B yuan in China ? I think even 700m yuan could be a little difficult.

 

Both MI5 and T5 in China will outdo their NA gross, I think.

MI5 and T5 should do 600-800 mill yuan IMO.

Monday will drop less than 50% from sunday. good hold

 

the month went from down 35%  the first week from last year to up 35% yesterday. could be up 50%

Its on track to blow past 5B for the first time ever after eclipsing 4B in Feb for the first time

If next weekends openers are big and if MH, JB and TMK can hold well, 6B could be threatened

With these Monday numbers, MH looks on track to overtake TF4 (1.98B) as the second biggest film after F7 (24.24B) . Right now the absolute floor for MH is 1.7B+. Could cross 2B with strong later legs. 

 

JBM is second only to MH among local films. It could beat LiT at this rate.

 

TMK is heading to about 850m, will replacing KFP2 as biggest animated film ever during this weekend.

If Minions gets your lower end projection of 600 million, I think it crosses KFP2, right? As far as I recall KFP2 got like 90 million, so 600 million on your lower end projection is..96 million and your average estimate of 650 mill brings it to like 104. Good numbers I think. Can probably be in top 10 animated films of all time in China perhaps.

BO's Weekly Chinese preview gets posted here first on Monday nights and then on the site on Tuesdays.

 

Last weekend’s box office hit a record $183 million with the top three films (Monster Hunt, Jianbing Man, and Monkey King: Hero Is Back) accounting for $172 million. The three well-received and highly-praised local films have broken nearly every domestic record in the books and while this weekend’s box office totals won’t reach the same heights, with little in the way of competitive new releases, the holdovers look poised to dominate again.

The box office needs to average 225m per day to get to 6B.  its possible if...

Made just over that yesterday. will fall short a little today, tomorrow and Thursday with typical weekday declines.

Its up to "only you"  to bump it back up to 300m average for Friday thru sunday with help of good holdovers, MH and TMK 50%~

150m mon thru wed, if sunday is 300

then Thursday and Friday to bump back up with new openers

Minions is having good date if its the last big import till October. So it could hold on to its screens and do 1B in China. MI5 is also in good shape.
