POLYLOVE
local movies are very cheaphow do the operating costs of theaters compare? Not exactly. Local 3D movies' prices are equal to foreign 3D movies. At least the cinema I'm frequently going sells local and foreign movie tickets in same price. A Marvel Fanboy
local movies are very cheaphow do the operating costs of theaters compare?Local movies are cheap to make but ticket price for local movies is significantly higher than foreign movies. Most local movies are running in deficit, and so are most theaters. And when theaters make net gross from sales, it is usually about as low as 5%. However when a movie is a hit, it can make several times income compared with the cost.
A Marvel Fanboy
Cinema theaters in China have relatively higher operating costs than most foreign theaters. Mainly because of insane rent costs and many kinds of taxes. For example, in NA, most theaters are isolated and have their own land, which translates into lower operating costs. But in China, theaters always locates in Malls in central urban area, where the rent price is insane.

Paramount must be afraid of TF4/TH3 facing off in September 2013. So they are trying to find a partner in China.

A Marvel Fanboy
How does that compare to Non Lorax animations?Better than BRAVE, on par with WIR. All in bomb territory.Worse for Guardians is that Life of Pi (11.22) and 2012 3D are coming next week. Its will lose most of its screen in just one week after OD.WIR at least had 10 days without compition.
SchumacherFTW
Thats a shame. Is there a cultural reason non sequel animation doesn't catch on in China or is it just one of those things?
A Marvel Fanboy
The developing market status and cultural reason I suppose.
