Robert Cain
Amazing how fast this market is growing, this could top the US stagnant market in as little as 10 years. If China's annual box office growth slows to 25 percent (from the 35+ percent average of the past decade) it will surpass North America in 2018. If its growth slows to 20 percent it will surpass North America in 2020.

Omni
If China's annual box office growth slows to 25 percent (from the 35+ percent average of the past decade) it will surpass North America in 2018. If its growth slows to 20 percent it will surpass North America in 2020. Hopefully their consideration of the cinema and their taste in movies grow, too. Especially about animated films. But I'm afraid it'll remain in the 'Russian Route' for awhile.

peludo
Some 2014 long range predictions ? In release sequence: 12.18 --- Gone with the Bullets --- drama --- 2D/3D/IMAX --- 2.0B Correct me if I am wrong, but if 300 million Yuan is about 50 million $, you mean that this movie, Gone with the Bullets, will make about 330 million $ :o ?? Olive
I think that's a bit high, 1.5B yuan is possible tho.
A Marvel Fanboy
I do think GWTB could be the first movie to cross the 2B yuan ($328m) mark. 1.5B is locked imo. think even poorly received Personal Tailor (2D, non-sequel) is doing half of 1.5B. GWTB (mega cast, huge budget $50m, co-production, 3D, IMAX, sequel to the most well received Chinese movie in past decade) on double screens. JCS
Why did China box-office growth slow down this year? 30%+++ was expected, no?
Fake
China box office cannot keep growing indefinitely. It has to slow down at some point. Further, generally different countries have annual box office of around $500-700 for every million dollar of GDP. China is fast approaching this mark and is now over $400. So the growth rate will keep slowing down asymptotically.
