As long as it focuses more on Kaijus instead of giant robots and the human characters, it will most likely do well. If PR1 was a film all about the events that lead to what happened in the actual movie then it could have done way better at the box office, instead they skipped most of it and focused on the aftermath. The Kaijus were left mostly ambiguous and many characters didn't have enough time for a proper introduction.

Maelstrom ain't some uncommon Orcish or Elvish word Ethan. It's got a basis in fiction and nautical/maritime jargon for ages.
