Close enough. Scott Eastwood joined.

A franchise which isn't a draw lost the director who pretty much was the big name and is leaning on Boyega and Eastwood while competing with Black Panther, Deadpool 2, Wreck it Ralph and a very crowded March. This isn't going to end well.

Ikr? What a terrible release date. They need to move it to late July or August.

I honesty hope this is a Force Awakens-sized hit in China so that it'll be the first film in history to make less than 100M DOM and make 1B WW.

It would need a similar gigantic China-gross to the likes of Furious 7 & The Mermaid...for Pacific Rim 2 to have that huge bump. And to have other countries to support the OS-gross

That will be hard, though. DOM-wise......unless they move it to a crowded release slot, it could comfortly do fine.

Pacific Rim 2 will be filmed in China's soon to be built Qingdao Movie Metropolis (at least, that's what the article makes it sound like). The same is being done for the yet-to-be-developed Godzilla 2. Not that surprising to me. I saw something like this coming not long ago.

Our children and grandchildren will build the Phone-Li for Chinese people, confirmed.

It is just a question of when.

Pretty much, everyone is a no name in this, and looks like this will target China a lot more than the US audiences.

I mean clearly it's targeting that.  And that release date...wasn't that the same weekend The Mermaid opened this year and raked in gobs of money?  That's a good date in China I think.  I'm assuming it's opening same day in China (or earlier?).

Hollywood's Godzilla filming in China...that must really irk Japan!!  ;-)

(Shin Godzilla was morbidly fascinating, btw!)

most actors will avoid this movie. It's guaranteed to do poorly everywhere except China

Most US moviegoers are going to avoid it so the parallel makes sense. The sequel no one really wants(niche fandom aside) cause the first was so bland from a story&character perspective.

I want it. OK, I'm not from the US and I'm probably in the niche fandom but still.... I count ok? it's gonna be awesome, I have the faithz.

I didn't want it at first, but with the talent they're hiring, I'm interested in seeing how this will go.

But I do agree with many people. If there's a movie that didn't need a sequel, it's Pacific Rim, and I for one enjoyed it.
