I disagree about the quality of the novel.  It's a  terrific novel imo but it works as a novel, Spielberg was right when he said they needed to make the characters more likable for the film.  But the novel is very good, imo.

I watched the re-release in 3D. The film still holds up. I was jump scared and it had my attention throughout. The 3D was as usual trash but I did see it on a huge screen with good sound and heated recliners so the overall experience was a good one. Popcorn could have been better.
