Nikki/Numbers Reporting

  1. 1. What would you think about an official "Nikki Thread", where each week's updates from Nikki Finke (Deadline.com) will all go into one single archived topic?

  2. 2. What would you think about an official "Actuals Thread", where each weekend's actual numbers are always posted/updated into one single thread?

  3. 3. What would you think about an official "All New Numbers" thread, where literally ALL new numbers would posted into a single thread? (Example: all Friday estimates, all Tuesday estimates, etc.)

I prefer the old way of doing things, but with something else that hasn't been done:

Make sure they are all tagged.

Every daily actuals, estimates, etc. thread should be tagged with its date (including the year), so that someone can simply drop that date into the search tags box and pull up all the relevant threads. Weekend threads should have tags for all three (or four, or whatever) days that make up a part of the weekend.

Alternately, or in addition to this, we can put the dates in the titles of the threads.

The point is, we now have an effective searching system, and with a little extra effort, we can use it to make all the typical daily threads easy to find. I think that's part of the reason Shawn suggested consolidating them into one thread: for organization purposes. They do tend to get lost if you're looking for stuff more than a few days back.

We should follow a certain format in tagging to make it uniform.

Exactly. It needs to be uniform, so someone who knows the system (it can be put in a sticky thread at the top of the board if need be) can just find the date without fuss.BOM was a minimalist site, and we got used to operating under that mode. There's a lot more we can do here - it's just taking a bit of time to realize it. That's a nice "problem" to have, though. :)

against all 3 here too... in fact i'm going away from this method in the Aussie box office thread as it's very hard to find info.now running an official thread with weekly numbers posted as new threads on a weekly basis.

BTW - agree with the tagging idea - EG:I'm tagging all Australian threads in the international section as"Australia"Weekend tag: "Weekend" (ie. multiple tags in this case.)we should impliment a policy in regards to topic tagging - it might even work better than the archive at the top of the whole forum... .like we run now ?

The problem with combining all the threads into one is that it would become hard to find where the discussion for a particular day starts. For instance, there were 9 pages of discussion on the numbers from last night. Maybe I'm just being lazy but it would be annoying to have to search through the whole thread to find the beginning of the conversation. However, if we wanted to just make those threads to keep a record of the numbers but leave out discussions I wouldn't have a problem with it. It would be interesting to be able to look back and see how close the Friday numbers tend to match the weekend actuals.

Completely agreed, if we ever want to look back through a thread for discussion purposes, we'd have to go through hundreds of pages.

I love that idea! Brilliant.

I think for the third option a "weekly" thread would work better than simply a massive thread wherein every day's numbers were thrown in there. For example a Nov.14-17 thread with the weekday numbers in it, then the weekend numbers would go into their respective threads.
