Defying naysayers, the Tom Hardy anti-superhero crowd-pleaser gave Columbia Pictures one of its biggest openings ever with incredible support from fans who championed the film amid a dark cloud of online negativity.

“Venom” was likewise No.1 in the world, dominating the international box office with an impressive $125.2 million, the biggest October global launch in history.

To put that into perspective, “Venom’s” international opening had come in above recent stand-alone superhero titles, topping “Wonder Woman” by 38%, “Ant-Man And The Wasp” by 32% and “Logan” by 29%.

In the US, the twisted comicbook tale also rocketed past expectations to open at No.1 with $80 million, wrestling the biggest October opening record from 2013’s “Gravity.”

Closer to home, “Venom” devoured its biggest sales in SM Megamall (P3.79 M), SM Mall of Asia (P3.68 M) and Trinoma (P2.99 M).

Among the top-ten-grossing cinemas are SM North EDSA (P2.56 M), Glorietta 4 (P1.97 M), Power Plant (P1.82 M), Greenbelt III (P1.69 M) and key provincial venues SM Clark (P1.64-M), Ayala Cebu (P1.62 M) and SM Cebu (P1.55 M).

Rounding out te top thirty theaters are SM Aura (P1.07 M), SM Lanang (P1.05 M), Robinsons Magnolia (P1.044 M), UP Town Center (P1.041 M), Newport (P1.040 M), Harbor Point (P1.019 M), Market! Market! (P1.013 M), SM Southmall (P1.00 M), SM Baguio (P968,301) and Abreeza (P961,720).

One of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters takes center stage as Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) becomes the host for the alien symbiote Venom. As a journalist, Eddie has been trying to take down the notorious Life Foundation scientist Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed) for years – an obsession that ruined his career and his relationship with his girlfriend, Anne (Michelle Williams). When one of Drake’s experiments – the alien Venom – merges with Eddie’s body, he suddenly has incredible new superpowers, and the chance to do just about whatever he wants. Twisted, dark, unpredictable, and fueled by rage, Venom leaves Eddie wrestling to control dangerous abilities that he also finds empowering and intoxicating. As Eddie and Venom need each other to get what they’re looking for, they become more and more intertwined — where does Eddie end and Venom begin?

Now showing in Philippine cinemas and IMAX, “Venom” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing Internat

WARNER BROS. PICTURES’ “AQUAMAN” HITS A HIGH WATERMARK OF

HALF A BILLION DOLLARS AT THE GLOBAL BOX OFFICE

At Number 1 in the world, James Wan’s spectacular underwater adventure has captivated
moviegoers from sea to shining sea and beyond

Burbank, CA – December 27, 2018 – Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Aquaman” is a worldwide box office hero that has took in more than $500 million, and still counting.  The announcement was made December 24 by Ron Sanders, President of Worldwide Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures Group and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

“Aquaman” began its remarkable run earlier this month in China when, on the heels of an appearance by director James Wan and stars Jason Momoa and Amber Heard, the film celebrated an almost $95 million opening weekend, the highest-ever opening for a Warner Bros. film in that market, where it currently stands at more than $230 million.  The stop was just one in a global tour that hit cities across four continents, from London to New York City to Manila, Australia and beyond, capping off a strategic campaign that kicked off last summer with Momoa diving off a cliff to preview the trailer launch ahead of the cast’s arrival at San Diego International Comic-Con.

In the Philippines, “Aquaman” has amassed a staggering Php 458.6-million in box-office gross since it opened last December 12.

Number 1 internationally for the third consecutive weekend, the film opened this past Friday in North America, where it has an impressive cume of $72.7 million and counting, with approximately 14 percent of the gross coming from IMAX screens.  In the 70 markets now in release, including Brazil ($17.1 million), Mexico ($16.1 million), Russia ($12.8 million) and the UK ($12.8 million), the international cume to date now stands at $415.5 million, with Australia set to open on December 26, Italy on January 1, and Japan on February 8.  “Aquaman” is presently en route to becoming the highest grossing Warner Bros. film ever in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Taiwan, among other markets.

“James Wan has created a terrific movie that is clearly connecting with audiences around the world,” said Sanders. “We look forward to ‘Aquaman’ riding this wave of success through the holiday window and well into the new year.  Congratulations to the entire team behind this film.”

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame

Breaks Opening Day Records
in Philippine Box Office

Much like how Thanos snapped his fingers to wipe out half of the population of the entire universe in an instant, the much-awaited release of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame obliterated Philippine box-office records on its opening day.

Bringing a decade’s worth of action and storytelling to an epic conclusion, Avengers: Endgame smashed local opening day box office records as it opened with P205,676,345 (US$ 3,880,685) in 970 screens, with select cinemas starting at 6:01am and some holding 24-hour screenings.

The fourth film in the Avengers franchise and the 22nd film in the grand Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Avengers: Endgame broke the opening day record of 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, making it the biggest opening of a Marvel film in Philippine cinemas to date.

Weeks prior to the opening day, local malls have already started selling tickets for Avengers: Endgame and Filipino Marvel superfans showed their love and support for the Infinity saga movie as opening day tickets were almost immediately sold out.

Avengers: Endgame is now showing in Philippine cinemas nationwide. Join the conversations online at #AvengersEndgame and #MarvelPH.
