Impact
Well, this is Harvey. I still remember Chocolat and The Reader. And remember, this is a crowd pleaser above all. Remember ELAIC? I think it is in. The way you worded that made it sound like Loud and Close was a crowd pleaser.
riczhang
The way you worded that made it sound like Loud and Close was a crowd pleaser. Oh, it did, for Academy members. It's a strange phenomenon.
Impact
If that was a "feel good" movie to them, I hate to know what there days are like... Anyway-what is Philomena anyway?

pieman
The Reader was great.
stripe
Reader was better than slumdog but worse than wall-eAgree with ric. If Harvey wants a film nommed, its nommed, so philomena is a serious contender.

riczhang
And I'm going to do an update on my predictions sometime this week before TIFF 2013, hopefully. I need to get fully caught up on what's happened festival wise because I've spent the past 4 days in Whistler mountain biking with le boyfriend. Need to get caught up on ADF, and friends that are in Venice and Telluride.
pieman
Reader was horrible No it wasn't. Just because it got nominated instead of The Dark Knight doesn't make it horrible. Come on, be mature about it.
CoolioD1
I don't really care about the fact that The Dark Knight wasn't nominated. Wasn't one of my favorites of the year, and yes, The Reader is a terrible film.
pieman
I don't really care about the fact that The Dark Knight wasn't nominated. Wasn't one of my favorites of the year, and yes, The Reader is a terrible film. Grown Ups 2 is a terrible, horrible film. Not The Reader. Anyway, what was HORRIBLE about it? The main criticism was that it failed to deliver an emotional response for some viewers, nobody complained that it was horribly made, acted or written. The Stingray
TDK didn't deserve a best pic nom.
Michael Gary Scott
The Reader definitely didnt deserve that nomination. And it wasnt just tdk got screwed. Walle could of taken its place and I would of been happy.
BoxOfficeFangrl
The Reader is exactly the kind of movie Kate Winslet parodied on Extras. It sounds like so many movies are delivering, BP is shaping up to be another bloodbath category. Though usually what happens is that support coalesces around one project and the outcome is completely predictable by the time the Oscars roll around. Jake Gittes
TDK might not have deserved to be one of the five nominees in most years, but 2008 was so weak that it absolutely deserved to get in. The only better movies from that year that I know of are Wall-E and Let the Right One In.
The Stingray
2008 was a bad hangover after 2007.
DAR
Obviously things can change but Gravity and American Hustle seem to be early locks.
ChD
Obviously things can change but Gravity and American Hustle seem to be early locks. 12 Years a Slave, too... But yeah, that's up to the amount of violence in it.
