riczhang
No it wasn't. Just because it got nominated instead of The Dark Knight doesn't make it horrible. Come on, be mature about it.Yes it was. And no it isn't because it got nominated over TDK. It was still an awful movie and for the record I was hoping for Doubt.
The Futurist
Some people say Reader is horrible but they never go into specifics. Edited September 2, 2013 by The Futurist

I thought Doubt was pretty bad too...
riczhang
Some people say Reader is horrible but they never go ino specifics. It's a contrived, awfully executed, and ugh....... piece of work. And the acting wasn't particularly impressive either. It bored me. It made me want to walk-out.

4815162342
Strongly disliked The Reader, liked Doubt a good bit, TDK didn't deserve a BP nom.
stripe
Prisoners early reviews are glowing. Another contender rises. This is going to be an amazing nom Oscar race. So many contenders and at this moment almost everything is in a strong position. I'm very confident that these 7 films are almost in 12 years a slave Gravity All is lost American Hustle Philomena Saving Mr Banks August Then, we have another 12 strong contenders Prisoners - Gone baby gone had also glowing reviews but failed at the Oscars Butler - Will be overshadowed by 12 years? Wolf of Wall Street - Never bet (part 1) against Scorsese Counselor Monuments Men - never bet (part 2) against Clooney Her Capt Phillips Dallas Buyers Club - heard good things about this Foxcatcher Nebraska Inside Llewyn Davies - heard good things also Blue Jasmine - too early? 4815162342
Considering how great so many films have been received, I will wait for box office (it does play a role to a degree) and the beginning of the critic awards season.
Jake Gittes
I'd keep Before Midnight as one of the alternatives. It's still the most critically acclaimed movie of the year and it's already looking like a better "summer indie" contender than Fruitvale Station, which has totally died in wide release (so did BM, but I'd argue it doesn't need the box-office quite as much) and might easily be buried by the combined power of The Butler and 12 Years a Slave. Blankments
Apparently, Walter Mitty's chances are dead in the eyes of everyone here, but I still believe in the STILLER

ChD
Not according to your list Now! I forgot to put it down. For me, it's one of the front runners. I'm trying to make the list a bit more realistic.
Jake Gittes
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_fifth_estate/ Yup, I think we've got the first one we can completely scratch out of the race. This is no Social Network. Shame about Cumberbatch, though; I would have liked to see him ride this role to actual acclaim and perhaps some nominations. Unfortunately it looks like there isn't anything to ride on.
Impact
That would of been funny just to hear "The winner is..Doubt" I doubt it! I still am waiting for a film called "Nothing" to win.
