2013 Best Picture Thread

Animated short is sometimes amusing.

Still I can never forget in 2000 when they went "The Oscar goes to Father and Daughter"

Me: Oh sure you give it to the only normal sounding title and the only normal looking one :P

Current Predictions:

Best Actor:

1. Robert Redford for All is Lost

2. Oscar Isaac for Inside Llewyn Davis

3. Leonardo DiCaprio for The Wolf of Wall Street

4. Michael B. Jordan for Fruitvale Station

5. Colin Firth for The Railway Man

On the Outside: Matthew McConaughey and Chiwetel Ejiofor

Railway Man might actually happen. Standing Ovation at TIFF; we'll have to wait for reviews though. Hopefully good cus I love it when I'm right. :P

Captain Phillips looks very good, judging by the trailers, and is getting great reviews. Another lock, perhaps?

I wouldn't call it a lock until more reviews come in. It's trajectory might be changing, but it would still be a very strong contender.

Also depends on how the rest of the year shapes up. Seems that this fall brings us real quality movies.

Am really hoping that it is not Weinstein this year. (Studio wise I want Fox, Sony or Disney to win-surprisingly Fox has not won since French Connection (!-and they use to be one of the big winners, and Columbia not since Last Emperor. Well Unforgiven was WB's 2nd BP winner since Casablanca! And the 1st since My Fair Lady!)

WB won lost year though.

I know-that has nothing to do with what I said-I said Unforgiven was only WB's 2nd win since Casablanca-meaning it took them a while to get another win is all.

Edit: And WB won lost? ;)

That would of been funny just to hear "The winner is..Doubt" I doubt it!

I still am waiting for a film called "Nothing" to win.

There was a similar funny joke in The Naked Gun 3. When Dreblin discovers that the danger is inside the envelope announcing the Best Picture winner. He shouts "It's the bomb!" and the producers of underperforming nominee "Sawdust and Mildew" run merrily to the stage thinking they've won

LOL

If Fox Searchlight counts, looks like you've got to root for 12 Years ;D

We will learn about August: Osage County tonight. Strong reviews for DBC and Mandela, but they seem far more likely to just be showcases for their respective lead actors. Gravity and Twelve Years a Slave are the only sure things at this point, though word on Phillips is probably leaning towards it being very positive. Rush and Prisoners could sneak in depending on how else the year crumbles.

Update:

American Hustle

The Counselor

Grace of Monaco

Gravity

Inside Llewyn Davis

The Monuments Men

Saving Mr. Banks

Wolf of Wall Street

Will All is Lost and Fruitvale looking in-as I put in another post I have some reasons to why I think All is Lost will be nominated-which is the fact that only Last King of Scotland won best actor with no other nominations (except the first Oscars). And if All is Lost wins best actor it would need another nomination-it wouldn't be screenplay so picture, here we go.

Okay there has to be a family film there! Every year since 2009 there has been ;)

Current:

Before Midnight

Blue Jasmine

The Counselor

Grace of Monaco

Inside Llewyn Davis

The Monuments Men

Saving Mr. Banks

Wolf of Wall Street

And dang you can't even read my old posts with this dang quote thing on here...

There were some other films I was thinking of....

Since you have to search in order to quote something instead of just quoting what was said when you quoted it, I'm just copying and pasting what I put earlier:

Okay I think Grace will be there considering it had the lucky release date that the recent Weinstien films have had.

I know I have more posts on here about my picks-but I'm not going to search the entire thread :P

Monument Men and Gravity are also possible.

_____________

Right now my predicts are:

Blue Jasmine

The Counselor

Grace of Monaco

Monument Men

Saving Mr. Banks

Wolf of Wall Street

Some movie that came out already that made about 1M (seems to be a trend)

Some film nobody knows about yet

And another film

Early predictions:

The Counselor

Wolf of Wall Street

Out of the Furnace

Fruitville

Before Midnight

Nebraska

American Hustle

Have to think about other films to put. Possibly:

Mr. Banks

August

The Butler

Captain Philips

42 (If they are running low they could, doubtful but you never know)

Untitled film that does not come out till December ;):P

I chose one of the Wienstien films for now, was unsure which to chose.

Took me forever to find all of these

Sorry I hate the quote thing so I did that instead.

I am thinking of a new set right now.

Currently I would not be surprise if Scott win director though.
