http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/tom-cruises-jack-reacher-sequel-412465"The film has grossed $153 million to date and will have to do strong business in Japan, China and Korea if it is to spawn a new franchise for Paramount.Paramount is facing a dilemma on whether to embark on a sequel to Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher, and sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the film must do exceptional business in key Asian territories where it has yet to open in order to justify another installment in the wannabe franchise."

BOM has the budget at only $60 million and it seems locked to do over $200m worldwide in the end. Not sure what the hold-up is if it's only about money.

I was pretty sure that they would start considering making a sequel. It they make it for around the same budget, and gross more than the first one, you can know for sure that they'll start a franchise. The second one will be mostly a test to see if people would return for it...

If they do a sequel, I hope they go with "61 Hours" as the basis.  It's a great read, and the budget would be low if they are hesitant about continuing with this franchise.

Sounds like he may have already signed on for a sequel.http://www.deadline.com/2013/03/tom-cruise-eyeing-the-man-from-u-n-c-l-e-with-guy-ritchie-at-warner-bros/

I’m told that he will reprise the Jack Reacher role from Lee Child’s books, after the $60 million-budget Jack Reacher grossed more than $215 million worldwide for Paramount and Skydance. Warner Bros began quiet talks with Cruise after he completed All You Need Is Kill with director Doug Liman, which must have turned out pretty strong.

I just saw this announcement elsewhere and was surprised to not see it in the main forum.

What does it take to get a thread off "The Lot" and into the main forum?

At any rate I enjoyed Reacher and will see another film.

Cruise can do better than this. Jack reacher had some good parts but was ultimately too slow, Mcquarrie is a excellent writer but his direction is lacking in some parts. Tom Cruise really needs to take on more challening dramatic roles.

I think the first is quite good as well Jai. But I think Paramount greenlighted this just to keep Tom Cruise happy for him to make another MI movie.
