grim22
Just now, WrathOfHan said: I doubt they'd go against Thor. There is almost always an animated movie against a live action movie the first weekend in November. And box office wise, going against Thor is probably the easiest of any Marvel property. Grinch has a lot of name recognition and will play strongly through Christmas anyway.
Sal
Yeah. Animated movies go against Live Action quite a bit, it's not as bad as two of them going head to head against each other. I'm not sure how well MLP will do, since a lot of the time having an ongoing tv show associated with an animated movie seems to cause a drop in urgency to go see the movie... OTOH, that's almost always been related to an animated series sandwiched in-between two movies and MLP has not had a theatrical release film. (And it also didn't particularly affect Transformers, but the movies and animated shows were different beasts altogether)

cannastop
It can't be more obnoxious and unnecessary than the Jim Carrey version, right?
AniNate
Don't count anything out from the makers of Hop Though at the very least this story lends itself far better to the animation style than that bizarre Brian Levant kind of tone Howard was going for

Eric Duncan
So the Grinch will be voiced by...Benedict Cumberbatch?

Sal
...well, one more reason I'm not going to waste my money on this movie. I really don't see the appeal of that man. At all.
Jonwo
Given Dr Seuss has never done that well OS and it's opening two weeks before Coco plus it's a Christmas film which means its legs will be cut short by 25th December, it'll be lucky if it matches The Lorax's WW total. DAR
I'll just stick with the 1966 original
WrathOfHan
I think there's a very strong chance a different movie is #1 every weekend of November: 3: Thor 10: Grinch 17: Justice League 24: Coco

goldenstate5
The Jim Carrey version was so reprehensible that I actually think Illumination has the upper-hand here. It may be bad, but Cumberbatch is a surprisingly good choice. It's not a hammy comedian, so already a plus.
