The Futurist
Me too, this Meryl going supporting is nonsense. Fucking pundits and their so called insiders scoop trying to influence &/or jynx the race. Tom O Neil will have a lot to answer to if his scoop is false. riczhang
Well with Winslet and Whale Girl, they had no other Leading character of the same gender to hide behind. This time, Meryl has Julia which makes this move viable.
Dilusha Bandara
Anything new on Bullock? An early review said, her role in GRAVITY is one of her best performances to date.
Jack Nevada
I liked The Butler a lot but Oprah was hardly the best performer in it. I dont think she deserves a nomination.
CoolioD1
You can basically lock Oprah for a nomination. Because Oprah.
riczhang
You can basically lock Oprah for a nomination. Because Oprah. Yeah. But, there's always the chance that the Festival season overshadows the Butler (possible) and that Harvey really decides to campaign for Streep. She might miss that way. I know she's Oprah and she's famous and that and all, but it's still Harvey. No one does Oscar better than Harvey. (With the possible once in a while exception of Barker)

riczhang
Well I could change my mind but as of right now I'm picking her I think something out of the festivals will take it from Blanshitto. Blue Jasmine was released way too early to win, imo.
Impact
Possibly Oscar number 2 for Bullock? One man/woman shows are quite popular with the Oscars.
lilmac
I thought Oprah did a splendid job.
Impact
I doubt they put her in lead. Its one of those films where its about 1 person, even if it is more then 1 lead.
Jake Gittes
Possibly Oscar number 2 for Bullock? One man/woman shows are quite popular with the Oscars. Three things working against that (not counting other actresses' work) 1) It's sci-fi, so she should be happy just to receive a nom (see Weaver for Aliens) 2) Redford is potentially a top contender for Best Actor, and they wouldn't want to reward a one-man show and a one-woman show in one year 3) Her first Oscar win happened just four years ago, which might not be an argument in itself (Waltz comfortably won twice within three years) but in this case, building on #1 and #2 it's gotta be taken into account
Impact
Still it be a interesting race to see. Although the only sci-fi to ever win a acting award was Cocoon which was more of a lifetime achievement then anything else.
The Futurist
Gravity is not sci fi guys. We ve been over this. There is no sci fi concept in Gravity. None.
CoolioD1
Science based+fiction = science fiction. It's in the dictionary, man.
The Futurist
They use toasters in movies sometimes. That is science based : electricity, resistance, iron, Tesla, Volt, some of the biggest technological accomplishments of human kind allow us to use a toaster. Hence movies where people use toasters are sciece fiction, just like Gravity where Sabu's character uses a spaceship and a space suit.
