StarSaber
Hows Can't wait for the finale, which aside from a few bits will be mostly wrap-up and reaction to Episode 9, but really can't wait for Season 4. IMO, based on what we have in the books so far, if Season 4 covers the ground I think it will (and doesn't mess things up), it'll be the best season of the show (based on the current book material). I think the material we have through 5 books should take us through about 5.5 seasons, since a fair amount of Books 4 and 5 can be condensed and I expect a little from each of those books to trickle into Season 4. How's the series going to continue once the books are exhausted? It seems the show might go dark for years while the 6th or 7th book is being written. My hope is that Book 6 is released Winter 2014, which is possible. How big is Arya part next season? Depends on a couple factors, but I'd say regardless that she'll have a smaller role in Season 4 than this season based on how her chapters in the 3rd book are (they cut a good amount out of her journeys in the first half of the 3rd book).
4815162342
To be a bit clearer, Arya has the most chapters in Book 3 out of any character (13). But only two of them come after the Red Wedding, so they would have to invent some material to keep her on-screen.
DeeCee
The show runners have stated they see it as one big book and aren't confining themselves to match book to season. I'm hoping they run books 4 and 5 as 3 concurrent TV seasons. We wouldn't see a TV season based on book 6 until 2017 at the earliest. My opinion is this: Season 4: Rest of Book 3 and a handful of chapters from Books 4 and 5 (mainly opening ones). Season 5: Books 4/5 concurrently Season 6: The remainder of Books 4 and 5, with the final few episodes starting with Book 6 material since the fifth book essentially postpones a couple huge setpieces to early on in Book 6 that would wrap up Book 5's main plotlines. When this season is over I will sketch out in the other thread more precisely how I would structure Season 4. Cedarpoint1111
What happens when producers run out of books? They can't wait 2-3 years to film another season...
cozmeesah
Who knows? Luckily they have a few years before they have to worry about that. Plus George told David & Dan where the characters will end up, so maybe they'd just make up the journey themselves.
4815162342
What happens when producers run out of books? They can't wait 2-3 years to film another season... Martin has already sketched out outlines for the rest of the story and if the show catches up to him they'll use those outlines to form the foundation for any remaining seasons. Spidey Freak
It would be nice if at least Book 6 came out before the show catches up to it. Then they could semi-improvise for the last season as that wouldn't matter much. I remember the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World being made before the last volume of the books came out. It worked because the movie ending and book ending were slightly altered but both were equally fascinating in their own way. I expect the same for GoT/ASoIaF. Boxx93
Do you think the showrunners should have splitted A Clash of Kings into 2 seasons as well? Many Book readers complained that season 2 omitted many stuff from that book.

No, my feeling is that Seasons 1 and 2 should have been 12 episodes apiece since you can thoroughly cover and even expand a bit on both novels in that period of time. But from Season 3 onward the 10-episode format is better since you're no longer covering a book a season (You could do the 3rd book in 16 episodes I think). But aside from the RW, other stuff happened in Episode 9, like:
