The Official Blu-Ray sales/records threads (Did DH2 beat Avatar's record?)

The-Numbers has got everyone confused. I hope we get some official statement from Nielsen about the sales.

Agree. The downsizeing of the numbers all the time makes it hard to belive in the numbers

Strowbridge has an explanation for the downward revision for the last week sales (and other revisions in general), no doubt motivated in some part by my hate mails :P

Before we get into this week's overall Blu-ray market, we have to talk about last week's numbers. Like the the monthly job numbers, numbers tend to be revised and newer information comes in. Usually these revisions are quite small compared to the overall size of the market. This was not the case this week, as overall sales were 20% less than first reported. This means the record-breaking week wasn't actually record-breaking. It was still the second best week in the history of the format, so there's still reason to celebrate.

OK so the numbers from the-numbers are unreliable. So they are estimating sales instead of actually counting units sold?Hmm the home media market needs something like Soundscan that actually counts units sold.
