Restarting the thread for this weekend. Please read the below announcement:

 

 

To quote Ron Burgandy, that escalated quickly.

 

Today's drama in the Friday thread highlighted a miscommunication between one of the Mods and myself when it comes to warning members. As the administrator, I take responsibility for that misunderstanding which resulted in a few warnings going out from the staff that were in haste. Any potentially unfair warnings have been or will be removed, but the rest will remain in effect (including those that participated in the events alluded to below).

 

When it comes to the term that became so controversial today, it was never the central issue for why anyone was warned. We apologize for the confusion on that end, but the central problem was the rise in intentional and targeted discourse on the forums after fair approaches and compromises were offered behind the scenes via private messages. These are the kinds of conversations that members are not privy to, so perspective is necessary to keep in mind before anyone involves themselves in a situation they aren't fully involved with. Moreover, the reaction was over extremely minor warnings.

 

That being said...

 

The reaction from a handful of members in response to those warnings wasn't becoming of this forum. The staff and myself try to objectively discuss and respond to member complaints as fast as we can, but as mentioned in the past, that takes a little time.

 

What makes it challenging for us to address your concerns is when no one even contacts us. Aside from one single person, none of the involved parties in Friday's thread de-railing talked to staff members before trying to take matters in their hands...

 

Not cool, and we simply cannot allow that. When you do contact us, please be patient. This is a volunteer staff and we get to issues as fast as possible. We can't get to every concern on an hourly basis and complicated issues sometimes take at least one or two days to arrive at a conclusion on.

 

If you disagree with an action or warning from a staff member, your best course of action is to bring it to the Mods and Junior Admins. If you don't like the response you get or the speed at which it's given, that doesn't give you the freedom to take to the forums in unjustified organized protest.

 

The issue here is one of miscommunication, not just on the staff's end, but the members involved today as well. As the rules of the forums state:

[*]What is"flaming", and "trolling"?: Anything meant to be overly-provocative and/or intentionally disrupt the natural, civil nature of a topic or forum. If you have to be warned consistently for either of these, you risk being temporarily suspended or permanently banned.

    Addendum on Bullying: Repeated and monotonous attacks or otherwise "hateful" comments about a person--whether they are a member of this forum or not--may be interpreted asbullying and/or trolling and therefore be subject to potential warnings.

    In other words, feel free to share your opinion on an actor, but don't abuse that freedom with non-constructive subjective insults that have no relevance to the discussion and/or the forum and its purpose. We're not going to go on a witch hunt for everyone dissing actors or political figures, but please be as civil and respectful as possible when talking about real life human beings. They're people, too. :)

    It's like our rule on profanity: ranting against someone is allowed so long as you don't abuse that privilege.

In other words, if you repeatedly insult someone with vulgar language of any kind, be it toward a member or a real life person, it can be interpreted as bullying and/or trolling. We've received a number of complaints in recent months about the negative comments spreading like a virus around the board, so this rule was expanded to cover people outside of the forums (in addition to members whom the rule already covered).

 

If you disagree with the rules, fine. Just respect them and follow them when the staff ask you to. If you don't, you'll risk losing posting rights on this forum and no one wants to see that happen. Publicly attacking a Mod and his decision is not the proper way to handle something.

 

We do our best to maintain a friendly atmosphere and this is one way we're trying to do it. Please respect that.

Wasn't the original Friday thread mostly cleaned up already? I don't think there was really a need to delete it and start a new one when nobody will be talking about the Friday numbers once Sat/weekend numbers come out in a few hours.

Wasn't the original Friday thread mostly cleaned up already? I don't think there was really a need to delete it and start a new one when nobody will be talking about the Friday numbers once Sat/weekend numbers come out in a few hours.

 

It's just simpler and cleaner to get the drama out of the way. No one's posts were deleted, the topic is just hidden for staff viewing only.

Aw chin up, you've done an amazing job of being admin.  It's been running so smoothly for a year and a half, a hiccup like this was bound to happen with such a rowdy group of people :P

I was being sarcastic. ;)

 

It's just us trying to laugh at the situation. Several members interpreted a few warnings earlier as that word not being allowed, but that's not what it was about.
