luna
Ok makes sense! Thank you. 2010 was such a great year for animated films in general. So many good animated films came out that year. This year has been dissapointing so far. 2009 was the best year - up, mary & max, coraline, fantastic mr fox, secret of kells, cloudy with a chance of meatballs... ...and then there's all the acclaimed ones i haven't seen - ponyo, waltz with bashir, princess and the frog, 9... AniNate
This might be a surprise entry - Juan Jose Campanella's "Foosball" http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/argentine-animation-aims-high-foosball-589225 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6o8_iHpXZyw They're saying it'll pretty much have to get international distribution in order to make money, so I expect it'll be submitted this year Edited July 19, 2013 by tribefan695
mahnamahna
Brave is way better than Ralph.Brave was a half baked mother daughter princess movie - the trailers had me expecting an epic war of the bears vs Scotsmen type deal. They should have let Brenda Chapman do her bolder, darker vision.I consider it Pixars worst and only truly poor filmWreck it Ralph was the most Pixar-like film of 2012 and it had enough heart that I still feel it should have won Best Animated Feature. I remember nothing about Brave but I know all of the characters from Wreck it Ralph
AniNate
Any film that has a montage set to "Shut Up and Drive" loses the right to the label "Pixar-like"
mahnamahna
Then a montage of a bear learning to fish in sync with cheesy interpretative dance style Celtic music loses that right as well.Wreck it Ralph was a lot more inspired that the same tired "princess disobeys parents and brings curse upon the land"If Pixar had made a dark LOTR/Dark Crystal style fairy tale with a grim vibe to it, then I'd give Brave some credit
AniNate
At least it wasn't a metaphor for sex that was completely out of place with the tone of the film
mahnamahna
True... they could have written an original song for the movie
kayumanggi
BRAVE was way better than WIR.

mahnamahna
BRAVE was way better than WIR. Well Brave was Pixar's worst while I think Wreck it Ralph is Disney's best of the 21st century
Jack Nevada
I just wish Hayao Miyazaki gets another Oscar some day. The fact Tarantino has two and Miyazaki has only one is depressing.
Jake Gittes
The hell does Tarantino have to do with it?
Jack Nevada
Miyazaki is in every way a superior filmmaker.

Ezen Baklattan
Is The Wind Rises going to be eligible this year? If so, I would definitely call that the front runner. Ghibli hasn't won since Spirited Away, and the WWII subject matter is really going to make academy members giddy. If they're smart they'll do a New York/L.A release in like november so it would be eligible. Its not that strong a year for american animations, so it would really have a chance if they dont bitch out and release it in 2014. I personally would love to see it win. PatrickvD
I'd rather have Frozen win because WDAS has yet to win in the first place. Then release TWR next year so Ghibli can take hom their second Oscar.
CoolioD1
According to In Contention, The Wind Rises is getting a release in LA in the last week of the year to be eligible.
