Bluebomb, how long do you see LOP playing in HK? It's holding tremendously well with limited screens.

With my track record of predicting its demise, forever.

But seriously, not very long. The weekend after New Year's is always terrible. Most films drop in the 60-70% range. As for new movies coming out, lots of Chinese movies are making their way to theaters in the next 2 weeks including The Grandmaster, The Last Tycoon and The Last Supper. You've also got Oscar bait films too like The Sessions, Django Unchained, Anna Karenina, The Impossible coming out. And then there's action films like The Last Stand. If I had to guess though, maybe 3 or 4 weeks at most. It's been doing well for so long that I think a couple of theaters will keep on playing it just as a placeholder once its gross gets into the ten thousands.

Oh look, Life of Pi is still in theaters (21st week).

At least Ang Lee can boast about Life of Pi being shown in HK more weeks than Avatar.

Where did LOP finish for the year and also on the all-time list?

Life of Pi ended at #4 for 2012, behind the 3 superhero movies. All-time is a bit harder to track since no site has published accurate data but it's around the top 30, either just inside or barely out.

Not a bad hold for Oblivion. Battleship fell 12% on its opening Sunday so it's doing in line with typical sci-fi apocalyptic movies. Conspirators had the best drop on Sunday but it also had the worst increase on Friday. Go figure. Croods was #3 on Sunday. It posted a solid increase. Saving General Yang outranked Finding Mr. Right on Sunday but it couldn't catch Mr. Right overall. Great drop for Mr. Right on Sunday. Huge spike for Ip Man: The Final Fight on Sunday. I'm not sure if this is an aberration or if it's genuine but it helped Ip Man: TFF to pass Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow in the official weekend rankings.

Gap -1,184 1,250 231 -120

This concludes the fight between Battleship and Oblivion. Warships and aliens over Tom Cruise and aliens.

April 11 Weekend Actuals1. Oblivion - $1,024,266 (weekend actual)2. Conspirators - $497,316 (weekend actual)3. Finding Mr. Right - $986,9034. Saving General Yang - $662,2295. The Croods - $2,538,1186. G.I. Joe: Retaliation - $3,174,580I Give It A Year - $81,168 (weekend actual)Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? - $34,786 (weekend actual)The Hunt - $15,460 (weekend actual)Seven Psychopaths - $15,460 (weekend actual)Oblivion drops from estimates. I see Oblivion making 2.3m. Good for Conspirators. It'll be the first in the series to reach 1m. Finding Mr. Right will go away with about 1.2-1.3m. After that sluggish start, it's a good total. Saving General Yang had the 2nd best hold of the top 10. The Croods passed 2.5m and it is $225,000 away from Wreck-It Ralph. I don't think it will get there after this weekend. Lots of theaters will dump it next week. GI Joe sputtered. Terrible hold this week. It'll gross 3.25m before leaving. I Give It A Year did bad but not as disgustingly bad as Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?. Tomorrow will have one of the worst PTA's of the year. The Hunt was solid. $7,600 PTA from 2 theaters. Seven Psychopaths scared off people making only a $2,576 PTA from 6 theaters.

Bluebomb, I read the entry on your blog about IM3's prospect. Great blog BTW  ;) I have some questions if you don't mind?

How popular is Superman in Hong Kong? Since it's the question in the poll, do you think MOS could do better than IM3 provided that both are good? TA was the biggest Hollywood release in HK last year, so could that help IM3 at all?

Sorry for asking too much. Thank you in advance for your responses  :)

Superman's very popular but not as popular as Spider-Man. I'd rank them like this

1. Spider-Man

2. Superman

3. Batman

4. Iron Man

It's possible that MoS could do better than IM3 but the prequel factor stops me from believing it could. Superman has a better chance of beating IM3's OW. Legs will be a huge factor. Iron Man 3 has 3 weeks of no competition but Superman has The Lone Ranger on July 3, Monsters University on July 11, Pacific Rim on July 18 and The Wolverine on July 25. Superman isn't exactly known as a franchise built by legs so I expect opening weekend to be huge.
